How to connect ClickUp to Meta Muse
Add ClickUp to Muse so it can read and update your tasks, docs and lists, with one custom connector and no ClickUp API key to paste.
Updated
Short answer
Muse has no ClickUp connector, but you can add ClickUp in about five minutes: connect ClickUp in Upsy with your normal ClickUp sign-in, then paste Upsy's setup prompt into Muse. Muse then uses ClickUp's own MCP server (the connector ClickUp runs so assistants can work in your workspace). It works on every ClickUp plan and on Muse's free plan, though ClickUp caps how many calls you can make a day on most plans.
The built-in way
Muse's connector list doesn't include ClickUp. Meta's September 29 announcement added Asana, Notion, Slack and others for work, but not ClickUp. Check Settings › Connectors in Muse in case it appears later.
Without a connector, Muse can still try two things:
- Its browser. Muse has a browser on its own cloud computer, so it could sign in to ClickUp's website. That's slow, and you'd be signing in to ClickUp on Meta's machine.
- A custom connector. Meta's connectors help page says Muse can create one for a service it lacks, often by asking you for API details. That route doesn't work well for ClickUp: ClickUp's MCP server only accepts its own sign-in, and personal API tokens don't work with it (ClickUp's MCP docs).
Upsy handles ClickUp's sign-in for you, so there's no key to find or paste.
What you need
- A ClickUp workspace. ClickUp's MCP server is on every plan, including Free Forever.
- Room in ClickUp's daily limit. Unless you have the Everything AI add-on, ClickUp counts MCP calls over a rolling 24 hours:
| ClickUp plan | MCP calls per 24 hours |
|---|---|
| Free Forever | 100 |
| Unlimited | 300 |
| Business | 1,000 |
| Business Plus | 2,500 |
| Enterprise | 5,000 |
With Everything AI, MCP follows ClickUp's normal API limits instead.
- A Muse account. Muse is for adults in the US and Canada.
- A free Upsy account.
Connect ClickUp to Muse
- Go to upsy.ai and click Set up Upsy.
- On Upsy's Apps page, find ClickUp and click Connect. ClickUp's sign-in page opens. Sign in and approve access.
- On Upsy's Assistants page, click Add assistant and choose Muse under Which assistant?.
- Click Copy prompt under Paste this into Muse. Paste it into a Muse chat in the app or at muse.ai.
- Muse adds a custom connector called Upsy and gives you a link or button to sign in. Open it, sign in to Upsy, and leave ClickUp ticked. Pick Read-only if you want Muse to look but not touch.
- Paste the Help Muse remember message Upsy shows into Muse, so later chats know ClickUp is in Upsy.
If you'd rather type it yourself: ask Muse to add a custom connector named Upsy at https://upsy.ai/connect. The Muse custom connector guide walks through it.
Check that it works
Send Muse: "Use Upsy to show my ClickUp tasks that are due this week, with their lists and statuses."
Muse should look up your workspace, search your tasks and list them. Then open Upsy's History: the ClickUp calls are listed under Muse.
What Muse can do with ClickUp
These are ClickUp's own tools (full list), and Muse can only do what your ClickUp account can do. In plain words:
- Find things: search the workspace for tasks, lists, folders and Docs, or filter tasks by tag or task type.
- Tasks: create, read and update tasks, set custom fields, and create or update many tasks at once.
- Comments: read comments and replies, and post comments that @mention people.
- Organize: add or remove tags, link tasks, add dependencies, and move a task to another list.
- Time: start and stop timers, log time by hand, read time entries, and see how long a task has sat in a status.
- Structure: read your spaces, folders and lists, and create or rename lists and folders.
- Docs: create Docs, read their pages, and add or edit pages.
- Chat: list ClickUp Chat channels and post a message to one.
One tool deletes things: Delete Task. ClickUp's setup page still says it has no delete tools, but its tool list now includes it. If you don't want Muse deleting tasks, use Pick actions and leave it out.
| Level in Upsy | What Muse can do in ClickUp |
|---|---|
| Full access | Every tool ClickUp gives, Delete Task included |
| Read-only | Only tools ClickUp marks as read-only, like searches and reads. A tool ClickUp hasn't marked counts as one that can change things |
| Pick actions | Only what you tick, for example create and update tasks, but not delete or send chat messages |
| No access | Muse doesn't see ClickUp |
Change the level on Muse's page in Upsy (Assistants › Muse).
Prompts to try
- "Create a task in my Personal list: renew passport, due Friday, high priority."
- "Start a timer on 'Draft newsletter'. Stop it when I say I'm done."
- "Summarize the comments on the website redesign task, then post a two-line update in the #marketing channel in ClickUp Chat."
- "How long has 'Invoice review' been In Progress?"
- "Turn this packing list into subtasks of 'Lisbon trip'."
- "Make a ClickUp Doc called 'Q4 ideas' from what we discussed in this chat."
Troubleshooting
ClickUp shows "Needs reconnecting" in Upsy
ClickUp's sign-in doesn't come with a way to renew itself. It lasts until ClickUp expires it, and then Upsy marks ClickUp as Needs reconnecting and Muse is told to ask you. Click Reconnect on Upsy's Apps page and sign in again. Your access settings for Muse stay as they were.
Muse says ClickUp hit a rate limit
ClickUp returns RATE_LIMIT_EXCEEDED when you reach its daily cap, with a time to retry after. The limit is per workspace and per app that connects. All your assistants reach ClickUp through Upsy, so Muse, Grok and the others share one allowance. Ask for fewer, bigger requests ("update these ten tasks at once"), or wait for the window to roll over.
Muse asks for a ClickUp API key
It doesn't need one. That happens when Muse tries to build its own ClickUp connector. Say "use ClickUp through Upsy", or paste the Help Muse remember message again.
Muse can't search files from apps you linked to ClickUp
ClickUp's MCP server can't search connected apps, such as a Google Drive linked to ClickUp. Connect Google Drive in Upsy as well, and Muse can search it directly.
A task or space is missing
Muse sees only what your ClickUp account can see, in the workspaces ClickUp let Upsy access when you signed in. To review that, click Reconnect next to ClickUp on Upsy's Apps page. To add a different ClickUp login, use Add account there; Upsy holds up to five.
Security and privacy
- Muse never holds your ClickUp sign-in. It calls Upsy's tools, and Upsy calls ClickUp.
- New apps start at Full access for every assistant you've added. If Muse should only read, set ClickUp to Read-only on Muse's page right after connecting.
- History. Every ClickUp call is logged in Upsy under the assistant that made it, so you can tell Muse's changes from Grok's.
- Emails. Upsy tells you when a new assistant connects or a new app is connected.
- Turning it off. One click turns Muse off in Upsy. Disconnect ClickUp on Upsy's Apps page to remove it for everyone.
- Approvals. Upsy doesn't ask before each action. Muse's own setting decides how often it asks you first.
Upsy is free for personal use, with no ads, and it doesn't sell data.
FAQ
Does Meta Muse integrate with ClickUp?
Not with a built-in connector. You can add ClickUp to Muse as a custom connector through Upsy, which uses ClickUp's own MCP server.
Do I need a ClickUp API key?
No. ClickUp's MCP server only takes ClickUp's sign-in, and Upsy handles it. Personal API tokens don't work with it.
Does it work on ClickUp Free Forever?
Yes, but ClickUp allows 100 MCP calls per 24 hours on Free Forever. Paid plans and the Everything AI add-on raise that.
Can Muse delete ClickUp tasks?
Only with Full access, or if you tick Delete Task under Pick actions. Read-only never allows it.
Can I use the same ClickUp connection in Grok?
Yes. Every assistant you add to Upsy uses the same connection, each with its own access level. See how to connect ClickUp to Grok.
