Can Claude fill out forms for you?
How to get Claude to fill out online forms and applications with your details, in a cloud browser signed in to your sites, while you watch and approve.
Updated
Short answer
Yes, with limits. On paid plans, Claude in Chrome and Cowork's built-in browser can type into web forms for you. They ask before entering sensitive information, and they won't handle card or ID data. With Upsy, Claude fills forms in a cloud browser signed in to your sites. It takes your details from your Upsy Memory and Files, while you watch and press submit yourself. Setup takes about ten minutes.
What Claude can do on its own
In a normal chat
Upload a form, as a PDF or a screenshot, and Claude reads it and drafts every answer for you to copy. That's free and safe. But on its own, chat Claude can't type into a website.
Claude in Chrome
Claude in Chrome runs in a side panel of desktop Google Chrome, on Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise. It reads the page, clicks, types and fills forms in your own browser. You can give it an image or a screenshot to attach to a form. Its permissions guide sets the limits:
- It asks your permission before "entering potentially sensitive information into websites", in every mode, even on sites you've always allowed.
- It never handles "sensitive credit card or ID data", creates accounts, or makes purchases.
- It won't follow instructions it finds in emails or on web pages.
It works only while Chrome is open on your computer, and not on other browsers or on phones.
Claude Cowork
Yes, Claude Cowork can fill out forms. Its built-in browser opens sites, clicks, types and fills forms, and it remembers your logins between sessions. It's on Pro, Max and Team, and on Enterprise if an Owner turns it on. Cowork can also use Claude in Chrome instead; you choose under Settings › Cowork. The Claude desktop app has to be open and online. Anthropic strongly advises against using either browser for sensitive information, such as financial or medical details.
Where it gets stuck
- Your details. Every form wants the same things: address, phone, employer, dates. Claude asks you each time unless they're in its memory, and Claude's memory is Claude's alone.
- Your documents. An application may want details from your CV or a contract. You upload it again to each chat.
- Logins. Many forms sit behind an account, like your insurer, your kid's school portal or a job site. Claude in Chrome uses your Chrome logins. Cowork needs you to sign in or import logins on that computer.
- Your computer. Claude in Chrome needs Chrome open on your desktop, and Cowork needs the Claude desktop app open and online.
How Upsy helps
Upsy is a free connector you add to Claude. For forms, three parts matter.
Memory: your details, written once
Upsy's Memory is one document you write about yourself: address, phone, date of birth, employer, emergency contact, sizes, dietary needs. Claude reads it before it fills anything in. When Claude learns something new, like "my new address is…", it can only suggest adding it. You accept or reject the suggestion in Upsy. ChatGPT and Grok read the same Memory, so you never type your details twice. See how to share memory between ChatGPT, Claude and Grok.
Files: your documents, ready to read
Upload your CV, cover letters or contracts to Upsy's Files once. Claude searches them by meaning ("my most recent job title") and reads the text. Upsy reads text from PDFs, Word (.docx) files and plain text. It doesn't read text from photos, so a phone picture of your passport won't give Claude your passport number. Files Claude saves for you, like a filled-in summary, go to its own folder, which other assistants don't see.
The cloud browser: signed in, in its own tab
Upsy's Browser is your own browser in the cloud. You sign in to your sites there once, and the logins stay. Claude opens its own tabs, labelled with its name, and types, clicks, picks from dropdowns and presses keys like a person would. Open Browser in Upsy to watch it live, and click into the tab to take over at any moment. Your computer can be off.
If a form emails you a confirmation code and your Gmail is connected to Upsy, Claude can find the code and type it in.
Set it up
- Sign up free at upsy.ai.
- Open Memory and write the details you get asked for most. Keep card numbers and passwords out.
- Open Files and upload the documents you reuse, such as your CV.
- Open Browser and sign in to the sites whose forms you fill in. Do the sign-ins yourself.
- Click Add assistant, pick Claude, and copy the address
https://upsy.ai/connect. - In Claude, go to Customize › Connectors, click Add custom connector, paste the address and click Add. Click Connect, sign in to Upsy, and keep Memory, Files and the cloud browser ticked. Click Allow. The custom connector guide has the details for each plan.
Check that it works
Send this:
Read my Upsy memory. Then open the contact form on example-shop.com in my Upsy browser, fill it in with my details and a question about delivery times, and stop before you submit.
Open Browser in Upsy. You should see Claude's tab with the form filled in from your memory, waiting for you. Check it and click submit yourself.
Prompts to try
- "Fill in the job application at this link with my CV from Upsy Files. Stop before the last page so I can check it."
- "Sign my daughter up for the summer camp form on the school portal, using the details in my memory."
- "Change my address on my insurer's site to the new one in my memory. Don't save until I say so."
- "Fill in the warranty registration for my new fridge. The serial number is in the PDF receipt in my Files."
- "Read this PDF form and tell me what to put in each box, using my memory."
What to fill in yourself
Some things should come from you, not the assistant:
- Passwords and sign-ins. You sign in to each site in the Browser yourself.
- Card numbers and bank details. Take over the tab and type them.
- Government ID numbers such as passport or Social Security numbers.
- CAPTCHAs and "are you human?" checks. Claude doesn't solve them; you do.
- File uploads. Upsy's browser tools can't attach a file to a form's upload button yet. If the application goes by email instead, Claude can attach your Upsy file to a Gmail message.
- The final submit, for anything legal, financial or hard to undo.
Troubleshooting
Claude asks for details you've already saved
Tell it to read your Upsy memory first. If it says it can't, open Claude's page in Upsy and check that Memory is on.
The form needs a document upload
Upsy can't attach files to web forms yet. If the site saves your progress, sign in on your own computer to add the file and submit. Or use Claude in Chrome, which can attach an image you give it.
The site logged out or asks you to verify
Open Browser in Upsy, sign in again or finish the check, then ask Claude to carry on.
A dropdown won't take Claude's choice
Some dropdowns are built from buttons, not real menus. Claude clicks the menu, then the option. If it's still stuck, pick it yourself in the tab.
Security and privacy
- Your Memory, Browser and app logins are stored encrypted.
- Claude never sees your passwords. You sign in yourself, and Claude uses the open session.
- Upsy's History records each page Claude opens and each click. It never records what Claude typed into a form.
- Upsy has no approval prompt of its own. Claude's tool prompts are the check, so tell Claude where to stop.
- Turn Claude off on the Assistants page, or take away the Browser or Memory on its page.
