How to connect multiple Gmail accounts to Claude
Claude's Gmail connector takes one Google account at a time. Connect your work and personal Gmail to Claude at once, up to five, each with its own access.
Updated
Short answer
Claude's own Gmail connector holds one Google account. To switch, you disconnect it and sign in with the other one. To use work and personal Gmail in the same chat, connect both to Upsy, up to five accounts, and add Upsy to Claude as a custom connector. It takes about five minutes and works on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner adds the connector first.
The built-in way
Claude's Google Workspace connectors cover Gmail, Calendar and Drive. With Gmail connected, Claude can search and read your email, draft, and send, reply or forward after you approve each one. Anthropic says Claude "can only access data for the account you connected." There's no way to add a second Google account next to the first.
To move Claude to your other account:
- Open Customize › Connectors and open the Google connector.
- Click Disconnect and confirm.
- Next time Claude uses Google, it sends you to Google to sign in. Pick the other account.
If Claude keeps landing on the old account, go to myaccount.google.com/connections, find Claude, and remove its access. Then try again.
That's fine if you only check your personal mail now and then. It doesn't work if you want Claude to answer "what do I owe this week?" from both inboxes, or reply from the right address without you switching first.
Claude Cowork uses the same connectors as chat, so Cowork has the same one-account limit.
What you need
- A Claude account on any plan. Free allows one custom connector, and Upsy uses it.
- The Gmail accounts you want, signed in on your browser so Google's sign-in is quick.
- On Team or Enterprise, an Owner who adds Upsy for the organization.
- For a Google Workspace address, an admin who allows third-party apps. Some companies block them.
Connect your Gmail accounts to Claude
Sign up free at upsy.ai by clicking Set up Upsy.
On Upsy's Apps page, click Connect on Gmail and sign in with your first Google account.
Back on the Apps page, use Add another account on Gmail and sign in with the second. Repeat for up to five accounts. Each one shows under Gmail with its own address.
Click Add assistant, and under Which assistant? pick Claude. Upsy shows the steps and your address to copy:
https://upsy.ai/connectIn Claude, open Customize › Connectors and click Add custom connector. Name it Upsy, paste the address and click Add. If Claude asks about authentication, keep its defaults. You don't need an API key or OAuth client ID.
Click Connect next to Upsy. Upsy's page opens with "Claude wants to access your Upsy". Sign in, and you'll see each Gmail account on its own line. Tick the ones Claude may use, choose Read-only or full access for each, and click Allow.
In a new chat, click +, hover over Connectors and check that Upsy is on.
On Team or Enterprise, step 5 is the Owner's job, under Organization settings › Connectors, then Add › Custom › Web. Members then do step 6. The custom connector guide covers every plan.
Check that it works
Send this:
Using Upsy, which Gmail accounts can you use? Show me the three newest emails in each.
Claude should list every address you allowed, then the three newest threads from each, labelled by account. If it shows only one inbox, see the troubleshooting below.
How Claude picks the account
Every Gmail tool in Upsy takes an account: the address to act as. If Claude leaves it out, Upsy uses the first account listed. So be specific when it matters:
- "Search my work Gmail (me@company.com) for the Acme contract."
- "Reply from the address the email was sent to."
- "Check both inboxes for anything from my landlord."
You can make a rule stick by telling Claude to remember it, or by adding it to your Upsy Memory, which every assistant reads.
What Claude can do with Gmail through Upsy
For each account you allow:
- Find and read: search threads with Gmail's own search terms (
from:,newer_than:7d), read messages and whole threads, and open attachments. Claude's built-in connector sees an attachment's details but not what's inside it. - Write: create drafts, reply in a thread, send, and send a draft you saved. It can attach your Upsy files or another email's attachment.
- Organize: archive, add or remove labels, mark read or unread, move to the trash and restore.
- Save to Drive: copy an attachment into Google Drive, if Drive is connected.
Access is set per account, not per app. Your personal Gmail can be Read-only while your work Gmail is Full access. On Claude's page in Upsy you can choose No access, Read-only, Full access, or Pick actions to tick single actions. For example, drafting but not sending.
Prompts to try
- "Summarize what's new in both my inboxes since yesterday, work first."
- "Find the flight confirmation in my personal Gmail and forward it to my work address."
- "Draft a reply from me@company.com to the last email from Dana. Don't send it."
- "Which newsletters land in my personal inbox most often? Archive last month's."
- "Search all my accounts for invoices from September and list the totals."
Troubleshooting
Connecting a second Google account replaces the first
That's Claude's own Gmail connector, which holds one account. Connect your accounts in Upsy instead, and ask Claude to "use Upsy" for email.
Claude uses its own Gmail connector, not Upsy
If both are on, Claude may pick its own. Say "use Upsy" in your prompt, or turn Claude's Gmail off for that chat: + › Connectors, then toggle Gmail off.
Google's sign-in screen says Composio
While Google reviews Upsy's own Google app, Gmail signs in through Composio's verified Google app. So Google's screen names Composio and asks for full mail access. Upsy only acts on your email when an assistant you allowed asks it to.
"This app is blocked" on a work address
Your Google Workspace admin restricts third-party apps. Ask them to allow it, or connect only your personal accounts.
Claude sends from the wrong address
Upsy used the first account because Claude didn't name one. Tell Claude which address to use. To make a mistake less costly, set the account you send from less often to Read-only.
No room for another custom connector on Free
The Free plan allows one. Remove the other custom connector, or connect that app to Upsy instead, if Upsy supports it.
Security and privacy
- Claude never gets your Google passwords or tokens. It calls Upsy's tools, and Upsy calls Gmail.
- Every action, by account, is in Upsy's History under Claude.
- Upsy emails you when one assistant deletes or trashes 50 or more items in 10 minutes, sends 20 or more, or reads from your apps 100 or more times.
- A new Gmail account you connect later starts at Full access for your assistants. Lower it on Claude's page if you want.
- Upsy doesn't ask before each action. Claude's own approval prompts do that, so keep sending behind them.
- One switch on the Assistants page turns Claude off. Disconnecting an account in Upsy cuts it off for every assistant.

FAQ
Can Claude connect multiple Gmail accounts?
Not with its own connector, which holds one Google account at a time. Through Upsy, Claude can use up to five Gmail accounts in the same chat.
Can I use two Gmail accounts in Claude Cowork?
Cowork uses the same connectors as chat, so its Gmail also holds one account. Add Upsy as a custom connector, and Cowork can reach every account you connected there.
Does this work on Claude's Free plan?
Yes. Free allows one custom connector, and Upsy is one connector no matter how many accounts it holds.
Can I give each account different access?
Yes. Each Gmail account is granted on its own. One can be Read-only, another Full access, and a third left out.
Do I have to disconnect Claude's own Gmail connector?
No. They can both stay. Turn Claude's Gmail off in chats where you want Upsy, so Claude doesn't mix them up.
Does it work with Google Calendar too?
Yes. Upsy holds up to five Google Calendar accounts the same way, each granted on its own.
