Can ChatGPT fill out forms for you?
How to get ChatGPT to fill out online forms and applications with your own details, in a browser signed in to your sites, while you watch and approve.
Updated
Short answer
Yes, with limits. On paid plans other than Go, ChatGPT Work's cloud browser can open a form, sign in where needed and type your answers, and it asks before anything hard to undo. What it types depends on what it knows about you. With Upsy, ChatGPT fills forms from a Memory you wrote and documents you stored, such as your CV, in a browser already signed in to your own portals. You watch, take over, and submit. Setup takes about fifteen minutes, most of it writing your details once.
What ChatGPT does on its own
- Help you answer. In any chat, you can paste a form's questions or upload it, and ChatGPT drafts the answers for you to copy in.
- Fill it in for you, in ChatGPT Work. The cloud browser can "enter information into forms" on public and signed-in sites. OpenAI's own examples include filling out passport renewal forms and preparing a DMV booking for your approval. When a site needs a login, it shows a secure sign-in form, and the session stays signed in for later. It's on paid plans except Free and Go.
- Use your own Chrome. In the ChatGPT desktop app, the Codex Chrome extension lets ChatGPT work in your existing Chrome profile and sign-ins (built-in browser guide).
Where it stops:
- ChatGPT asks for confirmation before actions that create a legal, financial or account commitment, and some sites block automated browsers.
- OpenAI says never to paste passwords, codes or payment details into the chat.
- ChatGPT's memory decides for itself what to keep, and it isn't shared with Claude, Grok or Muse. The details you give one assistant, you give again to the next.
If you fill the odd form in ChatGPT on Plus or Pro, its own cloud browser may be enough.
Where Upsy helps
Upsy keeps your details, your documents and your signed-in browser in one place that every assistant you connect can use.
| You need | In Upsy | How ChatGPT uses it |
|---|---|---|
| Your name, address, employer, references | Memory, one document you write | Reads it before asking you |
| Your CV, cover letter, ID scans, contracts | Files | Searches them by meaning and reads the text |
| Logins to job sites, government and benefit portals, your landlord's site | Browser, signed in by you | Works in its own tab, labelled ChatGPT |
- You stay in charge. Assistants can only suggest additions to Memory; you add or dismiss each one in Upsy.
- You watch and finish. Open Browser in Upsy to see the form fill in live. Click anywhere in the page to take over, fix a field, solve a CAPTCHA, or press Submit yourself.
- One place for every assistant. Claude, Grok and Muse read the same Memory and Files, and use the same browser.
One limit: Upsy's browser tools click, type and pick from menus, but they can't attach a file to an upload field. ChatGPT can read your CV in Files and type from it, but uploading it to the form is a step you do.
What you need
- A free Upsy account at upsy.ai.
- ChatGPT on the web, with the option to add a custom MCP server (a connector that lets ChatGPT use another app). If it isn't under Plugins, your plan or workspace doesn't allow it; in a work workspace, ask your admin.
Set it up
- Sign up at upsy.ai with "Set up Upsy".
- Open Memory and write what forms keep asking: full name, address, phone, date of birth if you're comfortable, employer and job title, emergency contact, references. It saves as you type.
- Open Files and upload the documents you reuse: your CV, a cover letter, past applications.
- Open Browser and sign in to the sites whose forms you fill: a job portal, your city's permit site, your Google account for Google Forms.
- Open Assistants, click Add assistant, and pick ChatGPT under Which assistant?
- In ChatGPT on the web, open Plugins, click Add, and choose to create a custom MCP server. Name it Upsy, paste
https://upsy.ai/connect, and set authentication to OAuth. Accept the warning, then click Create as a plugin. The custom connector guide walks through it. - Click Connect if asked, sign in on the Upsy page that opens, and give ChatGPT Memory, Files and the browser.
- Paste the "remember" message Upsy shows into ChatGPT, so it uses Upsy in new chats.
Check that it works
Ask ChatGPT: "Read my Upsy memory and search my Upsy files for my CV. What's my current job title?"
ChatGPT should call Upsy's memory and file tools and answer from them. If it says the memory is empty, check that you typed it into Upsy's Memory page.
A form, from start to finish
Take a job application on a company's careers site.
- You send: "Apply for the Product Designer role at this link with my details. Stop before you submit."
- ChatGPT reads your Memory and searches Files for your CV.
- It opens the page in its own tab and fills in name, contact details, work history and the short answers, drafting those from your CV.
- It reaches the CV upload field and the Submit button, and stops.
- You open Browser in Upsy, review each field, attach what's needed and click Submit.
Prompts to try
- "Fill in this Google Form with my details from Upsy and stop before submitting."
- "Fill out the rental application on this page using my memory and my employment letter in Files. Leave the bank details for me."
- "Renew my parking permit on the city site. I'm already signed in. Show me the summary before paying."
- "Register me for this conference: my details are in Upsy. Pick the vegetarian meal."
- "File a warranty claim for my headphones. The receipt is in my files."
- "Use my CV in Upsy to answer this application's work history questions, and tell me which ones you weren't sure about."
Troubleshooting
A Google Form asks you to sign in
A form with a file upload question needs a Google sign-in (Google's help), and some form owners require one anyway. Sign in to Google in Upsy's Browser page, then ask again.
ChatGPT doesn't find your CV
A new file shows "Processing" in Upsy's Files until its text is ready. If ChatGPT says the file's text isn't available, upload it as a text-based PDF or Word file. Also check that ChatGPT may use Files on the Assistants page.
ChatGPT asks for details that are in your Memory
It may not have read it. Say "check my Upsy memory first", or paste the "remember" message again. Also check that Memory is turned on for ChatGPT in Upsy.
It filled a field wrong
Tell it which field and what to put. Or take over in Upsy's Browser page and correct it yourself.
It wants to submit before you've checked
Say "stop before submitting" in every request. ChatGPT also asks you to approve each browser action unless you've told it to remember your approval in that conversation.
Security and privacy
- Upsy is in beta, and its privacy policy asks you not to store confidential or sensitive data yet. Decide for yourself whether an ID scan belongs there.
- Each assistant saves its own files to its own folder, which other assistants don't see.
- History lists every page and click by assistant. It never records what was typed, so the text of your answers isn't kept there.
- ChatGPT never sees your site passwords. You sign in yourself, in Upsy's browser.
- On the Assistants page you can take Memory, Files or the browser away from ChatGPT, or turn it off in one click.
