How to connect Fireflies to Meta Muse
Connect Fireflies to Muse so it can search your meeting transcripts, summarize calls and draft follow-ups from what was said.
Updated
Short answer
Muse doesn't connect to Fireflies on its own. Through Upsy it can: connect Fireflies in Upsy with the Google or Microsoft account you use for Fireflies, then paste Upsy's setup prompt into Muse. Muse can then search your meetings, read transcripts and summaries, and draft follow-ups. Setup takes about five minutes and works with any Fireflies plan. On Free and Pro, Fireflies caps how many requests you can make a day.
The built-in way
Muse has meeting connectors, just not for Fireflies. Meta's September 29 announcement lists Zoom and Granola among Muse's connectors. If your notes live in one of those, try the built-in connector first. Our Muse connectors list covers what else is built in.
If you record with Fireflies, you have two choices:
- Ask Muse to build a custom connector itself. Meta's connectors help says it can, and that Meta doesn't review custom connectors.
- Go through Upsy. You get the same Fireflies tools, with an access level you choose, a history of every transcript Muse opened, and an alert if it reads a lot at once.
What you need
- A Fireflies account. Fireflies' MCP server (the connector Fireflies runs for AI assistants) only needs an active account (Fireflies' guide).
- Enough room in Fireflies' limits. MCP calls share the same budget as Fireflies' API (limits):
| Fireflies plan | Per minute | Per day |
|---|---|---|
| Free | 30 | 500 |
| Pro | 60 | 5,000 |
| Business | 60 per paid seat, pooled, up to 1,200 | No daily cap |
| Enterprise | 60 per paid seat, pooled, up to 2,400 | No daily cap |
- Admin rights, for team-wide analytics only. Your own meetings need nothing extra.
- A Muse account. Muse is for adults in the US and Canada.
- A free Upsy account.
Connect Fireflies to Muse
- Go to upsy.ai and click Set up Upsy.
- On Upsy's Apps page, find Fireflies and click Connect. Fireflies' sign-in opens. Sign in the same way you do in Fireflies (Google or Microsoft) and approve.
- On Upsy's Assistants page, click Add assistant, then pick Muse under Which assistant?.
- Copy the prompt under Paste this into Muse. Paste it into a Muse chat in the app or at muse.ai.
- Muse adds a custom connector named Upsy and shows a sign-in link or button. Open it, sign in to Upsy, and keep Fireflies ticked. Read-only is a good choice here (see below).
- Paste the Help Muse remember message into Muse, so it checks Fireflies through Upsy whenever you ask about a meeting.
If Gmail is connected in Upsy too, Muse can turn what was said into email drafts in your Gmail.
Check that it works
Send Muse: "Use Upsy to list my Fireflies meetings from the last seven days, with the date and who attended."
Muse should return your recent meetings with titles and attendees. Then ask for one meeting's summary. Both calls appear in Upsy's History under Muse.
What Muse can do with Fireflies
The tools are Fireflies' own (tool reference). They cover only meetings your Fireflies account can access.
Reading
- List meetings with filters, along with their summaries.
- Read a full transcript, with speakers and timestamps. A meeting that's still going returns what's been said so far.
- Get a meeting's summary: action items, keywords and an outline.
- See meetings that are in progress.
- Get meeting analytics for you. Team-wide numbers need admin rights.
- Read channels, soundbites, your profile, user groups, and your contacts sorted by your latest meeting with them.
- Fireflies is also testing a full-text search and a "fetch everything" tool. These may not be on your account yet.
Changing things (only on meetings you own, or as a team admin)
- Share a meeting with up to 100 email addresses, with an optional expiry of 7, 14 or 30 days, and revoke a share.
- Rename a meeting, and move up to five meetings into a channel.
- Create a soundbite from part of a meeting.
The share tool sends your meeting to people outside Fireflies. That's why Read-only is a sensible default:
| Level in Upsy | What Muse can do in Fireflies |
|---|---|
| Full access | Every tool above, sharing included |
| Read-only | Only tools Fireflies marks as read-only: listing, transcripts, summaries and analytics. A tool Fireflies hasn't marked counts as one that can change things |
| Pick actions | Only what you tick, for example rename and soundbites, but not share |
| No access | Muse doesn't see Fireflies |
Set it on Muse's page in Upsy (Assistants › Muse).
Prompts to try
- "Summarize yesterday's call with Acme and list the action items with owners and dates."
- "What did Sam say about pricing in our last three calls? Quote him with timestamps."
- "Draft a follow-up email to everyone at today's 2pm meeting with the decisions and next steps, and save it as a Gmail draft."
- "Which of my action items from this week's meetings are still open? Check my Notion task list." (This needs Notion in Upsy too.)
- "Rename Tuesday's 'Untitled meeting' to 'Q4 roadmap with design'."
- "Which contacts have I met with most recently? Flag anyone I haven't emailed since." (This needs Gmail in Upsy too.)
Troubleshooting
Muse says Fireflies rate-limited it
Fireflies returned its rate-limit error (code -32429 over MCP). On Free that's 30 requests a minute or 500 a day, shared with anything else that uses your Fireflies API. Ask Muse for fewer meetings at a time ("just this week"), or wait and try again.
Muse can't find a meeting
It only sees meetings your Fireflies account can access. A teammate's call has to be shared with you first. Also check that you're signed in to the same Fireflies account in Upsy as in the Fireflies app.
Sharing or renaming fails
Those tools only work on meetings you own, or if you're a team admin. If Muse has Read-only access in Upsy, they're blocked there first.
Muse can't do a full-text search
Fireflies' search tool is still rolling out. Muse can still list meetings with filters and read their transcripts.
Muse uses its Zoom or Granola connector instead
If you have those built in too, Muse may reach for them. Say "use Fireflies through Upsy".
Security and privacy
- Fireflies' data promise stops at the connector. Fireflies' zero-data-retention policy covers its own features, not data an AI tool reads through MCP (Fireflies' guide). Once Muse reads a transcript, Meta's policies apply. Meta says data Muse used may stay in its memory and chat history after you disconnect.
- Muse never holds your Fireflies sign-in. It calls Upsy, and Upsy calls Fireflies.
- History. Every transcript and summary Muse opens is in Upsy's History, under Muse.
- Alerts. Upsy emails you if one assistant makes 100 or more reads in 10 minutes, and Fireflies transcript and summary reads count. It also emails when a new assistant or a new app is connected.
- Defaults. A new app starts at Full access for every assistant you've added. Set Fireflies to Read-only on Muse's page if you don't want it sharing meetings.
- Turning it off. One click on Muse's page turns it off. Disconnect Fireflies on Upsy's Apps page to remove it for every assistant.
Upsy is free for personal use, has no ads and doesn't sell your data. It has no approval step of its own: Muse's settings decide when it asks you first.
FAQ
Does Meta Muse work with Fireflies?
Not with a built-in connector. You can add Fireflies through Upsy, which uses Fireflies' own MCP server. Muse does have built-in Zoom and Granola connectors.
Can Muse take meeting notes for me?
Muse doesn't record meetings through Fireflies. Fireflies records and transcribes as usual, and Muse reads the results: transcripts, summaries and action items.
Can Muse draft follow-up emails from a Fireflies call?
Yes. It reads the transcript or summary and writes the email. With Gmail connected in Upsy, it can save it as a draft for you to send.
Does it work on the Fireflies free plan?
Yes, within Fireflies' limits for Free: 30 requests a minute and 500 a day.
Can Grok read the same transcripts?
Yes. Add Grok to Upsy and it uses the same Fireflies connection, with its own access level. See how to connect Fireflies to Grok.
