How to connect Todoist to Grok

Grok has no Todoist connector of its own. Connect Todoist through Upsy so Grok can add, find and complete your tasks and projects.

Updated

Short answer

Grok has no built-in Todoist connector. Connect Todoist to Upsy with your Todoist login, then add Upsy to Grok, or to Grok Bot, as a custom connector. It takes about five minutes and works on every Todoist plan, including the free Beginner plan. Grok can then add tasks with due dates, plan your day, reschedule, and complete or tidy up tasks.

The built-in way

Grok's built-in connectors, per Grok's connector docs, are Gmail and Google Calendar, Google Drive, OneDrive, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint and Salesforce. Its catalog adds Box, Canva, Gamma, GitHub, Linear, Meltwater, Notion, S&P Global and Vercel. Todoist isn't in either list. Todoist's own AI help pages have guides for Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and Muse, but not for Grok.

Todoist does run its own MCP server, a connector that lets an assistant use another app. Todoist says any assistant that supports MCP can use it, so you could add it to Grok yourself. Its sign-in always grants read and write access, though. Through Upsy you get:

  • Read-only access when you want Grok to plan your week without touching anything.
  • Pick actions: choose each action yourself, for example everything except deleting.
  • A personal and a work Todoist side by side, each with its own access.
  • Your email and calendar in the same chat, so Grok can turn an email into a task or plan tasks around your meetings.
  • A History of every task Grok added, changed or deleted.

What you need

  • A Todoist account on any plan: Beginner, Pro or Business. On a managed work or school account, your admin may need to allow third-party connections.
  • Grok on grok.com, or Grok Bot. Grok's docs say connectors are available to all Grok users. On Grok Business or Enterprise, a team admin adds connectors first.
  • A free Upsy account.

Set it up

  1. Create a free account at upsy.ai with Set up Upsy.
  2. On Upsy's Apps page, find Todoist and click Connect. Log in to Todoist and approve the request. Todoist asks for read and write access to your tasks and projects. If the window doesn't open, turn off your pop-up blocker for the sign-in.
  3. On the Assistants page, click Add assistant, then choose Grok under Which assistant? Upsy shows a setup prompt and the address https://upsy.ai/connect.
  4. Add Upsy to Grok:
    • In a chat: paste the setup prompt, approve the card Grok shows, then open the sign-in link.
    • By hand: on grok.com, open Connectors, click New Connector, then Custom. Paste the address and sign in. Step-by-step help is in the custom connector guide.
  5. On the Upsy page that opens, sign in and set Todoist's level for Grok. Click Allow.
  6. Paste the Help Grok remember message Upsy shows into Grok, so later chats use Todoist without you naming Upsy.

Grok Bot: paste the same setup prompt into a Bot chat and approve the sign-in. When you give the Bot a task, type @ and pick Upsy so it can reach Todoist.

Already connected Grok to Upsy? Just connect Todoist (step 2). New apps start at Full access for every assistant. Change that on Todoist's page in Upsy if you want less.

Check that it works

Send Grok: "Using Upsy, what's on my Todoist for today, including anything overdue?"

Grok should list today's tasks with their projects, and overdue ones too, since Todoist's "today" includes them. Then try a write: "Add 'Call the dentist' to my Inbox for tomorrow at 10am." The task should appear in the Todoist app within seconds.

What Grok can do with Todoist

Todoist's server has dozens of tools. In plain words:

Finding and reading:

  • Find tasks by text, project, section, label, assignee or a Todoist filter, or by date range.
  • Get an overview of your projects and sections, or of every task in one project.
  • See completed tasks, comments, reminders, labels and saved filters.
  • Read your activity log, productivity stats (karma, streaks) and project health.
  • Open a file attached to a comment.

Changing things:

  • Add or update tasks, up to 25 in one go, with due dates, priorities, labels and descriptions.
  • Complete, uncomplete or reschedule tasks. Rescheduling keeps a task's repeat schedule.
  • Add and edit projects, sections, comments, reminders, labels and filters.
  • Assign tasks to people in shared projects, reorder items, and archive projects.
  • Delete any task, project, section, comment, label, filter or reminder, all through one delete tool.

It can't upload attachments, and it can't create a project straight into a workspace folder.

Pick one level for Todoist, per assistant:

  • Read-only: finding, reading and stats only. Good for "plan my week" without any changes.
  • Pick actions: only the tools you tick. A common choice is everything except the delete tool. Tools Todoist adds later stay off until you tick them.
  • Full access: every Todoist tool, including deleting.
  • No access: Grok can't reach Todoist.

Prompts to try

  • "Look at today's calendar and my Todoist tasks due today. Which tasks realistically fit around my meetings?"
  • "Add these to my Groceries project: oat milk, eggs, coffee beans, dish soap."
  • "Find the email from Sam about the Q4 deck and add a Todoist task to reply by Thursday, with a link to the email in the description."
  • "Reschedule all my overdue tasks in the Admin project to next Monday."
  • "What did I complete last week? Group it by project for my weekly review."
  • "Make a Todoist project called Move to Lisbon with sections for Paperwork, Packing and Utilities, and add five starter tasks to each."

Email and calendar prompts need those apps too. See connect Gmail to Grok and connect Google Calendar to Grok.

Troubleshooting

A recurring task lost its repeat

Grok changed the date instead of rescheduling. Ask it to "reschedule" a task, not "change the date". If the repeat is already gone, set it again in the task's date field in Todoist.

"Sorry, something went wrong" after you allow access

Todoist's sign-in didn't get its security cookie. Allow cookies for todoist.com, log in to Todoist in the same browser, pause any tracker or ad blocker for the site, then connect again and approve straight away.

Completed recurring tasks seem to vanish

Completing a recurring task moves it to the next date. Ask Grok to check your completed tasks or activity log instead. The Beginner plan keeps 7 days of activity, while Pro and Business keep it all.

Grok says Todoist isn't connected or isn't allowed

If Todoist isn't connected, Grok is told to have you connect it on Upsy's Apps page. If it's connected but off for Grok, set a level on Grok's page in Upsy. Blocked attempts show in History.

Grok keeps answering without checking Todoist

Mention Todoist in the prompt, or paste Upsy's Help Grok remember message into Grok. For problems adding the connector itself, see Grok connectors not working.

A new project won't go into a workspace folder

Todoist's server can't do that yet. Let Grok create the project, then move it into the folder in Todoist.

Security and privacy

  • Grok never sees your Todoist login or token. Upsy signs in to Todoist and makes each call on Grok's behalf.
  • Todoist's sign-in grants read and write. Upsy's level is how you narrow that for each assistant.
  • History in Upsy shows every Todoist action Grok took, under Grok's name.
  • Alerts: if one assistant deletes 50+ items in 10 minutes, Upsy emails you. Todoist's delete tool counts. You're also emailed when a new assistant or app connects.
  • Turning it off: set Todoist to No access for Grok, turn Grok off with one click, or revoke the connection in Todoist under Settings › Integrations.
  • Upsy is built by Upstash, free for personal use, with no ads, and it doesn't sell your data.

FAQ

Does Grok have a Todoist integration?

Not a built-in one. Grok's docs don't list Todoist among its built-in or catalog connectors. You connect it through Upsy, or add Todoist's own MCP server as a custom connector.

Can Grok Bot use Todoist?

Yes. Add Upsy to Grok Bot from a Bot chat with Upsy's setup prompt, then type @ and pick Upsy when you assign a task. The Bot reaches your Todoist through it.

Does it work on Todoist's free plan?

Yes. Todoist's MCP server is available on Beginner, Pro and Business. Beginner only keeps 7 days of activity history, so Grok can't look further back than that.

Can Grok delete my Todoist tasks?

Only if you allow it. At Full access Grok can delete tasks and projects. Read-only blocks every change, and Pick actions lets you allow everything except deleting.

Can I connect a work and a personal Todoist?

Yes. Upsy holds up to five Todoist accounts. Each is connected and set up for Grok on its own, so the work one can be Read-only while the personal one has full access.
