How to connect Granola to Grok
Give Grok your Granola meeting notes so it can answer questions about past meetings, write follow-ups and pull out action items.

Short answer
Grok has no Granola connector of its own. Connect Granola to Upsy with your Granola sign-in, then add Upsy to Grok as a custom connector. It takes about five minutes. It works on Granola's free Basic plan, but Grok then sees only your last 30 days of notes and no transcripts. Business and Enterprise plans unlock your full history and transcripts.
The built-in way
Grok's connector docs list its built-in connectors: Gmail and Google Calendar, Google Drive, OneDrive, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint and Salesforce. The catalog adds Box, Canva, Gamma, GitHub, Linear, Meltwater, Notion, S&P Global and Vercel. Granola isn't in either list.
Granola runs its own MCP server (a connector that lets an assistant use another app), and Granola's integrations page lists Grok Bot as a place to use it. You could add Granola's address to Grok yourself as a custom connector. Going through Upsy adds a few things:
- One Granola connection that Grok, Grok Bot, Muse, ChatGPT and Claude all share.
- A History of every note Grok opened.
- Grok can use your Gmail and Calendar in the same chat, so "prep me for my 3pm" checks the invite and your past notes together.
- You can block transcripts and let Grok see only your notes.
What you need
- A Granola account with some notes in it. Granola takes notes in its desktop app (Mac or Windows) or mobile app. The web app only shows notes.
- A Grok account on grok.com. Grok's docs say connectors are available to all Grok users. On Grok Business or Enterprise, a team admin has to add connectors first.
- A free Upsy account.
What Grok can reach depends on your Granola plan:
| Granola plan | What Grok sees through MCP |
|---|---|
| Basic (free) | Your personal notes from the last 30 days. No transcripts, no folders |
| Business | Your personal notes and your workspace's public notes, full history, transcripts |
| Enterprise | Whatever your workspace admin allows. Admins can turn MCP or transcripts off |
Set it up
- Go to upsy.ai and click Set up Upsy.
- On Upsy's Apps page, find Granola and click Connect. Sign in with the email your Granola app uses, shown in its settings.
- Open the Assistants page, click Add assistant, and pick Grok under Which assistant? Upsy shows a setup prompt and the address
https://upsy.ai/connect. - Add Upsy to Grok in one of two ways:
- From chat: paste Upsy's setup prompt into a Grok chat. Approve the card Grok shows, then open the sign-in link.
- By hand: on grok.com, open Connectors, click New Connector, then Custom. Paste the address and complete the sign-in. The custom connector guide walks through this screen by screen.
- Upsy opens a page that says Grok wants to access your Upsy. Sign in, choose what Grok can use for Granola, and click Allow.
- Upsy shows "Grok is in" with a short Help Grok remember message. Paste it into Grok so it reaches for Granola in new chats without you naming it.
Already use Upsy with Grok? Skip steps 3 to 6. A newly connected app is on for every assistant at Full access straight away, and Grok can use it in the next message.
For Grok Bot, paste the same setup prompt into a Bot chat. Then type @ and pick Upsy to attach it to a task.
Check that it works
Send Grok: "Using Upsy, which Granola account am I signed in with, and what were my last three meetings?"
Grok should name your Granola account, then list three meetings with their titles, dates and attendees. If the email is wrong, see Troubleshooting.
What Grok can do with Granola
Granola's server only reads. It can't create, edit or delete notes. Its tools, in plain words:
- Ask about your meetings: a question in plain English, answered from your notes ("What did we decide about pricing?").
- List meetings: IDs, titles, dates and attendees of the notes you can see. Filtering by folder needs a paid plan.
- Read meetings: the full notes, your own private notes and the AI-enhanced summary.
- Read a transcript: the raw transcript of a meeting. Paid plans only.
- List folders: your Granola folders with their note counts. Paid plans only.
- Account info: the email and active workspace Grok is connected to.
Grok reaches these through Upsy's app_tools, app_read and app_call tools. You choose one of these levels for Granola, per assistant:
- Read-only: every Granola tool, since they all only read.
- Pick actions: only the tools you tick. Untick the transcript tool and Grok sees your notes and summaries, never the word-for-word record.
- Full access: the same as Read-only today. If Granola adds tools that change notes, Full access includes them and Pick actions doesn't.
- No access: Grok can't see Granola.
Prompts to try
- "I have a call with Dana Kim at 3pm. Check my calendar invite, then tell me what we covered in our last two Granola meetings and what I promised to do."
- "From yesterday's product review in Granola, list every action item with the owner's name."
- "Draft a follow-up email to the attendees of this morning's Acme meeting. Save it as a Gmail draft, don't send it."
- "Across my Granola notes from the last month, which customers mentioned onboarding problems?"
- "Summarize this week's meetings in five bullets I can paste into my weekly update."
The email and calendar parts need those apps connected too. See connect Gmail to Grok and connect Google Calendar to Grok.
Troubleshooting
Grok says "user has not created a Granola account yet"
You signed in to Granola with a different email than the one your notes live under. In Upsy, remove the Granola connection, connect again and sign in with the email shown in the Granola app's settings. If Granola's sign-in page skips straight to the old account, sign out of Granola in your browser first.
Grok can't find a meeting you know exists
Ask Grok which Granola account and workspace it's using. Granola's server follows the workspace that's active in your Granola app and never combines workspaces. Switch the workspace in the app, then ask again. On the Basic plan, notes older than 30 days are out of reach too.
Transcripts or folders don't work
Both are paid-plan features. On Enterprise, an admin can also switch off transcripts for everyone in Granola's workspace settings.
Grok says Granola isn't allowed
Upsy tells Grok when Granola is turned off for it. Open Grok's page under Assistants in Upsy and set Granola to Read-only. If you used Pick actions, check that the tool Grok needs is ticked. Each refused attempt shows in History as blocked.
Grok answers from memory instead of your notes
Grok may not know to look. Name it in the prompt ("check Granola"), or paste the Help Grok remember message from Upsy. For problems with the connector itself, see Grok connectors not working.
Requests start failing after a burst of questions
Granola's server allows around 100 requests a minute on average. Wait a minute and try again.
Security and privacy
- Grok never gets your Granola sign-in. Upsy holds it, calls Granola for Grok, and passes back only the answer.
- Granola's tools only read, so Grok can't change or delete notes. Your notes still hold private things, so give Grok only what you'd share. Pick actions lets you keep transcripts out.
- History in Upsy lists every Granola call Grok made, under Grok's name.
- Alerts: if one assistant reads from your apps 100 or more times in 10 minutes, Upsy emails you. Reading meeting notes counts toward that. You also get an email when a new assistant or app is connected.
- Turning it off: set Granola to No access for Grok, turn Grok off with one click, or remove the Granola connection in Upsy.
- Upsy is built by Upstash. It's free for personal use, has no ads, and doesn't sell your data.
FAQ
Can Grok read my Granola notes?
Not by itself. Grok's docs don't list a Granola connector. Connect Granola to Upsy, add Upsy to Grok, and Grok can search, read and summarize your notes.
Is there a Granola Grok integration on the free plan?
Yes, with limits. Granola's Basic plan gives AI tools your last 30 days of personal notes, without transcripts or folders. Upsy itself is free for personal use.
Can Grok edit or delete my Granola notes?
No. Granola's MCP server only lists, reads and answers questions about notes. Grok can write a follow-up in Gmail or a task in another app, but not in Granola.
Does Granola send a bot into my meetings?
No. Granola transcribes your device's audio and has no meeting bot, so Grok only sees notes from meetings you took in the Granola app. If your team records calls with a bot, see connect Fireflies to Grok instead.
Can Grok see my teammates' Granola notes?
Only notes Granola already shows you: your own, ones shared with you, and on Business, your workspace's public notes. It never sees another workspace's notes.
