How to connect Zoho Mail to ChatGPT
ChatGPT has no Zoho Mail app. How to add Zoho Mail as a custom MCP server, which ChatGPT plans allow it, and what ChatGPT can search, read and send.
Updated
Short answer
ChatGPT has no Zoho Mail app. To let it search, read and send your Zoho mail, add a custom MCP server on chatgpt.com: open Plugins, click +, choose Add custom MCP server, and paste the address of Zoho's own Zoho MCP server or of Upsy. It takes about ten minutes. Check your plan first: OpenAI lists full support, sending included, for Business, Enterprise and Edu, and read-only use for Pro.
The built-in way
Search for a ChatGPT and Zoho Mail integration and you'll find three things. None is a Zoho Mail app in ChatGPT.
Zoho CRM in the directory, not Zoho Mail
Search ChatGPT's plugin directory for Zoho and you get two results, as of October 17, 2026: Zoho CRM and Catalyst by Zoho. Zoho's Mail MCP FAQ confirms that Zoho Mail has no dedicated connector in AI assistants; you add it as a custom one.
OpenAI's models inside Zoho Mail
With Zia for Mail, on paid Zoho Mail plans, an admin enters an OpenAI API key and Zoho Mail uses OpenAI's models to write, summarize and suggest replies. Zoho Flow runs automations, such as "Generate email reply" when an email arrives. Neither lets you ask ChatGPT about your inbox in a chat.
Zoho MCP
Zoho MCP puts Zoho Mail into ChatGPT itself. You build a server at mcp.zoho.com, pick from Zoho Mail's 42 mailbox tools (search, read, send, reply, folders, labels, flags, delete, forwarding and more), copy its address from Connect, and add it as a custom MCP server. It costs $0.
Two things to know:
- Zoho's ChatGPT steps are out of date. Its ChatGPT page says to turn on Developer mode and click Create App. OpenAI removed developer mode on October 1, 2026. Follow the steps below, with Zoho MCP's address in place of Upsy's.
- The address works like a password. It holds an API key that opens your mailbox, Zoho warns. Each server covers one mailbox.
If you have one mailbox and want ChatGPT to file, label or reply in threads, Zoho MCP covers more than Upsy.
Where Upsy fits
Upsy reaches Zoho Mail through Zoho's Mail API, in your own Zoho data center. In ChatGPT it adds:
- A Read-only that holds. At Read-only, ChatGPT gets no send tool at all, whatever its own approval settings say.
- Up to five Zoho accounts in one plugin, from different data centers if need be.
- A record of every Zoho search and every email ChatGPT sends, in Upsy's History.
- Your other apps in the same plugin, and the same connection in Claude, Grok and Muse.
Upsy's Zoho Mail is smaller: search, read and send, with no thread replies, drafts, attachments, folders, labels or deleting. For those, add your Zoho MCP server inside Upsy (Apps › Connect an app › Any MCP server › Zoho MCP), and ChatGPT reaches it at the level you set.
What you need
- ChatGPT on the web. OpenAI says custom MCP servers are connected on the web only (OpenAI).
- A plan that allows it. OpenAI's help center, updated October 16, 2026, says:
- Business, Enterprise and Edu get full MCP support, including write actions such as sending. On Business, only admins and owners create custom MCP plugins. On Enterprise and Edu, admins can grant members the Create plugins with MCPs permission.
- Pro can connect custom MCP servers "with read/fetch permissions". Plan on searching and reading; sending is a write action.
- Plus isn't mentioned. Zoho's page says Plus and higher, and not Free or Go. On Plus, check whether Add custom MCP server shows up.
- A check in Europe. OpenAI has held connectors back from Plus and Pro in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland before. See ChatGPT's Gmail connector in the EU.
- A Zoho Mail mailbox in any Zoho data center: US, EU, India, Australia, Japan, Canada, Saudi Arabia, UK, UAE or Singapore.
- Upsy: a free account.
Connect Zoho Mail to ChatGPT with Upsy
Connect Zoho Mail in Upsy first. ChatGPT saves the server's tool list when you add it, so the Zoho tools are there from the start.
- Sign up at upsy.ai.
- Open Apps, click Connect an app and pick Zoho Mail. Zoho's sign-in sends you to your own data center; sign in and accept. For a second mailbox, open Connect an app again and click Add another account on Zoho Mail's card.
- Open Assistants, click Add assistant and pick ChatGPT.
- In ChatGPT on the web, open Plugins, click Add (+) and choose Create custom MCP server (some accounts call it Add custom MCP server).
- Name it Upsy. Under Connection, paste
https://upsy.ai/connect. Set authentication to OAuth and leave any client ID and secret empty. - Tick I understand and want to continue, then click Create as a plugin.
- Click Connect if ChatGPT asks. On Upsy's page, keep Zoho Mail ticked, choose Read-only or All, and click Allow.
- If ChatGPT shows Install plugin, install it.
Don't add Upsy from ChatGPT's plugin directory: that listing's tools were fixed when it was submitted, without Zoho Mail. More in the custom MCP server guide.
Check that it works
Start a new chat, type @, pick Upsy, and send:
@Upsy Search my Zoho Mail for emails with attachments from the past week and list sender, subject and date.
ChatGPT should call zoho_mail_search with a query such as has:attachment and list the results, possibly without asking, since search is marked read-only. Upsy's History shows the search under ChatGPT.
What ChatGPT can do with Zoho Mail
- Find mail (
zoho_mail_search): Zoho's search syntax, newest first, 20 results or up to 50, each with sender, time and a short summary. - Read an email (
zoho_mail_read): the whole email as HTML. Emails over 30,000 characters are cut. - Check the mailbox (
zoho_mail_account): your address and display name. - Send (
zoho_mail_send): to, cc and bcc, plain text or HTML, from your own address. Zoho keeps a copy in Sent.
The first three are marked read-only, so with Allow read actions ChatGPT runs them without asking. Sending is a write action, and ChatGPT asks first unless you've allowed it. Set the default under Settings › Plugins › Permissions (OpenAI).
Upsy's levels decide which tools exist at all: Read-only gives the first three and no send tool, Full access gives all four, and Pick actions gives only the ones you tick on ChatGPT's page in Upsy.
ChatGPT answers an email by sending a new one, not a reply inside the thread. With several Zoho accounts, name the address to use; otherwise it uses the first one you connected.
Prompts to try
- "@Upsy Find my accountant's latest email in Zoho Mail and list what she's asking for."
- "@Upsy Summarize today's unread Zoho Mail, most urgent first."
- "@Upsy Search Zoho Mail for 'renewal' in the subject this year and make a table of vendor, date and amount."
- "@Upsy Write a short email to ana@example.com saying the files are ready. Show it to me, then send it from my Zoho Mail."
- "@Upsy Using sales@mycompany.com, group this week's emails from new leads by company."
Troubleshooting
Developer mode, or Add custom MCP server, isn't there
Developer mode is gone; Zoho's page is out of date. If Add custom MCP server is missing under Plugins › +, check your plan above. On Business, ask an admin or owner to add it. On Enterprise or Edu, ask an admin for Create plugins with MCPs. On Plus or Pro in the EEA, UK or Switzerland, region may be the reason.
"Not available on your plan" or "Admin approval required"
These are OpenAI's availability messages. The first means your plan doesn't include it. The second means a workspace admin has to review the plugin; no request has been sent yet.
The Zoho tools aren't in the list
You probably connected Zoho Mail after adding Upsy to ChatGPT. Open the plugin, click Refresh and start a new chat; in a work workspace, an admin refreshes it. Until then, ChatGPT can still reach Zoho Mail through Upsy's app_tools and app_call. Also check that Zoho Mail isn't No access for ChatGPT in Upsy.
ChatGPT searches but won't send
Either Zoho Mail is Read-only for ChatGPT in Upsy, or your plan allows only read actions, as OpenAI says of Pro. When it's Upsy, ChatGPT has no send tool, and Upsy refuses any attempt to send.
"Zoho Mail access was revoked" or "Zoho Mail access expired"
That's the Zoho side. Reconnect Zoho Mail in Upsy's Apps. If ChatGPT itself asks you to sign in again, reconnect the plugin under Settings › Plugins.
Security and privacy
OpenAI warns that untrusted MCP servers can expose you to risks such as prompt injection, and leaves vetting them to you. Keep Zoho MCP's address private, and regenerate it if it leaks. With Upsy:
- ChatGPT never gets your Zoho password or token. Upsy calls Zoho Mail in your data center, such as mail.zoho.eu, and asks Zoho only for your account details and messages. Its tools only search, read and send.
- History records each search with its words and result count, and each send with its subject and recipients. Not email bodies.
- Upsy emails you when one assistant sends 20 or more messages in 10 minutes, and when a new assistant or app is connected.
- Upsy has no approval step of its own. ChatGPT's confirmation is the last check before a send, so think twice before Allow all actions.
- To stop it: set Zoho Mail to No access for ChatGPT, click Remove ChatGPT in Upsy, disconnect Zoho Mail in Apps, or revoke Upsy in your Zoho account under Sessions › Connected Apps (Zoho's steps).

FAQ
Is there a Zoho Mail app for ChatGPT?
No. ChatGPT's plugin directory has Zoho CRM, not Zoho Mail. Add Zoho Mail as a custom MCP server, with Zoho MCP or Upsy.
Can ChatGPT send emails from Zoho Mail?
Yes, on Business, Enterprise or Edu, with sending allowed in Zoho MCP or Upsy. ChatGPT asks you to confirm each send by default.
Which ChatGPT plan do I need for Zoho Mail?
Business, Enterprise or Edu to search, read and send. OpenAI says Pro gets read and fetch only, and doesn't say for Plus. Zoho says Free and Go can't.
What's the difference between Zoho Flow and a ChatGPT connector?
Zoho Flow runs automations that pass emails to OpenAI's models in the background. A connector lets you ask ChatGPT about your mail, and act on it, in a chat.
Does my ChatGPT dot get Zoho Mail too?
Yes. A dot uses the plugins you add in ChatGPT, so once Upsy is there, your dot can use Zoho Mail at ChatGPT's level in Upsy. See ChatGPT dots.
