How to connect apps to your ChatGPT dot

Your dot uses the plugins you add in ChatGPT. How to give it Gmail, Calendar, Slack and more, and what it may do with them while it works on its own.

Updated

Short answer

Your dot uses the same plugins as ChatGPT. Connect an app in ChatGPT's Plugins tab and your dot can use it too, within the permissions you set. ChatGPT's own Gmail, Calendar and Slack apps are enough for many people. To hold an always-on agent to Read-only per app, keep a record of everything it does, and share the same accounts, Memory and signed-in browser with your other assistants, add Upsy to ChatGPT once as a custom MCP server. It takes about five minutes. Dots are on Pro (outside the EEA, Switzerland and the UK) and Business Premium.

What a dot is

OpenAI launched dots on September 29, 2026. A dot is an always-on agent in ChatGPT, powered by GPT-6 Astra, with its own cloud computer. You give it a goal, it keeps working between conversations, and it brings results back for review (getting started).

Who gets one:

  • Pro: adults outside the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the UK.
  • Business Premium: in every region ChatGPT supports.
  • Enterprise, Edu and Healthcare: a beta, off until a workspace admin turns it on.

You create a dot in the ChatGPT desktop app or on ChatGPT in a desktop browser, not on mobile. If you can't find it, open chatgpt.com/dots.

How your dot uses apps

OpenAI's dots FAQ says plugin permissions are shared across dots, ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work and Codex. In practice:

  • Connect apps in ChatGPT's Plugins tab. On mobile, the same list is in your dot's profile under Customize › Plugins. OpenAI notes the available apps may differ there.
  • It works in two modes, with different rules:
Proactive research Tasks you give it
When On its own, looking for useful updates When you ask, including background and scheduled work
Reading your apps Yes, from sources you allowed Yes
Sending messages, changing content, using a browser No Yes, under its approval rules
  • Approvals. For tasks, the dot follows default rules on what needs your approval each time, what you can approve in advance, and what it does without asking. Custom Rules let you add limits, such as "never send emails", and an Auto-review step checks some actions, like an email's recipient, before they run.
  • What it keeps. The dot remembers what it learns from connected apps for as long as you keep it. Disconnecting an app stops new access but doesn't delete that; deleting the dot does.

What you need

  • ChatGPT Pro or Business Premium, with a dot set up.
  • ChatGPT on the web, to add the custom MCP server (a connector that lets ChatGPT use another app).
  • On Business, a workspace admin may need to allow members to create plugins with MCP servers. If the option to create a custom MCP server doesn't show, ask them.
  • A free Upsy account at upsy.ai.

Connect Upsy to your dot

  1. Sign up at upsy.ai and connect your apps on Upsy's Apps page, signing in to each.
  2. Open Assistants, click Add assistant, and under Which assistant? pick ChatGPT dot. Upsy shows these steps and the address.
  3. In ChatGPT on the web, open Plugins, click Add, and choose to create a custom MCP server.
  4. Name it Upsy, paste https://upsy.ai/connect, and set authentication to OAuth. Accept the warning, then click Create as a plugin. The custom connector guide has more on this screen.
  5. Click Connect if ChatGPT asks. Sign in on the Upsy page that opens and choose what your dot can use.
  6. Your dot now sees Upsy in its plugins, and so do your ChatGPT chats.

In Upsy, your dot is ChatGPT: it connects through ChatGPT's plugin, so the dot and your chats share one set of access choices and one History.

Check that it works

Message your dot: "Use Upsy to list what's connected and what you're allowed to do with each."

It should call Upsy's connector list and name your apps and accounts. Then try a read: "Using Upsy, what's on my calendar tomorrow?"

What your dot can do through Upsy

  • Gmail: search, read, draft, send, archive, label and trash, and copy an attachment into Drive. Up to five accounts; see multiple Gmail accounts in ChatGPT.
  • Google Calendar: list, create, change and delete events, answer invites, find free time.
  • Google Drive, Docs and Sheets: search, read and save files, suggest changes to a Doc, comment, and update a Sheet. Upsy never changes or deletes existing Drive files.
  • Slack: read channels and threads, find channels and people, and send messages as you. Message search comes once Upsy is in the Slack Marketplace.
  • Apps through their own MCP servers, like Linear, Notion, Todoist, Jira and Stripe, plus your Memory, Files and Upsy's cloud browser.
  • Outlook: not yet. Upsy's Outlook connector shows Pending until Microsoft approves Upsy. Until then, sign in to outlook.com in Upsy's cloud browser, and the dot can work there.

For each app you choose Full access, Read-only, Pick actions (only the actions you choose) or No access. Read-only allows only tools that only read, which suits a dot that mostly watches. For a Google Doc, Full access means suggestions you accept in the Doc; direct edits happen only if you pick that action.

  • "Watch the #launch Slack channel and tell me when someone asks me a question."
  • "Draft replies to this week's unanswered emails from clients. Don't send anything."
  • "Find a free hour with no meetings on Thursday and hold it for focus time."
  • "Keep the budget Sheet up to date when invoices arrive in my email."

Troubleshooting

Upsy doesn't show up for your dot

Check that the plugin is installed and connected in ChatGPT's Plugins tab, with the account you expect. If you connected a new app in Upsy after adding the plugin, open Upsy in Plugins and refresh it so ChatGPT picks up the new tools.

The dot reads but won't send

During proactive research it can't send or change anything. For a task, ask for the action directly: OpenAI notes that asking for a draft doesn't authorize sending it. Also check your Custom Rules, and whether that app is Read-only for ChatGPT in Upsy.

You got a "Mass read" email from Upsy

Upsy emails you when one assistant reads from your apps 100 or more times in 10 minutes. A dot catching up on your inbox can do that. If it's expected, ignore it or turn the rule off in Upsy under Settings › Alerts.

A site in the dot's browser isn't signed in

The dot's cloud browser has its own sign-ins, separate from your computer's and from Upsy's. To use your Upsy browser instead, ask it to use Upsy's browser tools.

Security and privacy

  • Your dot never gets your app passwords or tokens. It calls Upsy's tools, and Upsy calls the app.
  • Upsy's access level applies on top of the dot's own rules. Read-only in Upsy holds even if the dot tries to send.
  • Every action is in Upsy's History under ChatGPT. Alerts also email you on 50+ deletes or 20+ sends in 10 minutes, and when a new assistant connects.
  • One click on the Assistants page turns ChatGPT, and with it your dot, off in Upsy. What the dot already learned stays with the dot until you delete it.
