How to connect Notion to Meta Muse

Connect Notion to Muse so it can search, read and update your pages and databases. Give it full access, read-only, or only the actions you pick.

Updated

Short answer

Muse has its own Notion connector: say "Connect my Notion" in a Muse chat, or open Settings › Connectors. If Muse is the only assistant you use and its own approval settings are enough for you, stop there. Connect Notion through Upsy instead when you want to choose exactly which Notion actions Muse can take, see a log of everything it did, or give Grok, ChatGPT and Claude the same Notion connection. That takes about five minutes, works on Muse's free plan, and needs no Notion API key.

The built-in way

Meta added Notion to Muse's connector list after launch. It wasn't among the first connectors on September 8, 2026, but Meta's Muse for Small Business post of September 29 names it. Meta's connectors help page explains how to add one: ask Muse, or go to Settings › Connectors, tap Connect, read the details, tap Continue and sign in to Notion.

What the built-in connector does well:

  • It's one tap, and it's free.
  • By default, Muse asks before important actions, and Meta says some connectors can be limited to retrieving data only. You can change how often Muse asks in its settings.
  • Meta's launch post says Muse keeps an audit trail of what it does.

Where it stops:

  • It's for Muse only. Grok, ChatGPT and Claude each need their own Notion connection, with their own settings.
  • Meta doesn't say exactly what it can do in Notion. Read the details Muse shows when you tap Connect.
  • Disconnecting doesn't make Muse forget. Meta says data Muse already used may stay in its memory and your chat history.

If none of this matters to you, use the built-in connector. The rest of this guide is for the cases where it does.

What you need

  • A Muse account. Muse is for adults (18 or the local age of majority) in the US and Canada. Meta's paid plans, Power ($20 a month) and Maximum ($100 a month), add weekly usage, according to Meta's subscription help.
  • A Notion account with access to the workspace you want Muse to use. Any Notion plan works for pages and databases. A few tools need Notion AI on a Business or Enterprise plan (see below).
  • On a Notion Enterprise plan, your admin may have set AI apps to "Only from approved list". If so, they have to approve Upsy first (Notion's MCP help).
  • A free Upsy account.

Connect Notion to Muse

  1. Go to upsy.ai and click Set up Upsy.
  2. On Upsy's Apps page, find Notion and click Connect. Notion's own sign-in page opens. Pick the workspace and approve. Upsy uses Notion's MCP server, a connector Notion runs so that assistants can use your workspace.
  3. On Upsy's Assistants page, click Add assistant. Under Which assistant?, choose Muse.
  4. Upsy shows Paste this into Muse with a Copy prompt button. Copy it, open a chat in the Muse app or at muse.ai, and paste it.
  5. Muse adds a custom connector named Upsy at https://upsy.ai/connect and shows a link or button to sign in. Open it.
  6. Sign in to Upsy. Upsy lists each app you've connected. Leave Notion ticked, and set it to Read-only if you only want Muse to look things up.
  7. When Upsy says Muse is in, copy the Help Muse remember message and paste it into Muse. Without it, Muse only reaches for Upsy when you name it.

Prefer to do it by hand? In a Muse chat, ask it to add a custom connector named Upsy at https://upsy.ai/connect. Our Muse custom connector guide covers that in detail.

Check that it works

Send Muse: "Use Upsy to search my Notion for my reading list and show me the five newest entries."

Muse should list Upsy's Notion tools, run a search, then read the database and answer with titles and links. In Upsy, open History: you'll see the Notion search and fetch under Muse.

What Muse can do with Notion

The tools come from Notion's MCP server. It acts with your Notion permissions, in the workspace you picked when you signed in. In plain words, Muse can:

  • Search your workspace for pages, databases and people. AI search across apps you've connected to Notion, like Slack, needs Notion AI on Business or Enterprise.
  • Read pages, databases and saved views. Very long pages may come back cut short.
  • Query databases, by view or with filters: up to 100 rows per request.
  • Create pages, including from a database template, and update a page's properties or content.
  • Move and duplicate pages, and create databases, views and folders.
  • Read and add comments.
  • List members and teamspaces.
  • Query your meeting notes, if you have Notion AI on Business or higher.

Notion's list has no tool for deleting pages, but updates and moves can still change a lot. That's what the access levels are for:

Level in Upsy What Muse can do in Notion
Full access Every tool above
Read-only Search, read, query databases, read comments, list people and teamspaces, meeting notes
Pick actions Only the tools you tick, for example "create pages" and "add comments" but not "update" or "move"
No access Nothing; Muse doesn't see Notion

You set this on Muse's page in Upsy (Assistants › Muse), and you can change it at any time.

Prompts to try

  • "Add The Overstory to my Reading list database with status To read."
  • "Which tasks in my Home projects database are due this week? Group them by room."
  • "Create a page under Journal for today with the three decisions we made in this chat."
  • "Summarize the open comments on my Lisbon trip page."
  • "Find the flight confirmation in my Gmail and add the times to my Lisbon trip page." (This needs Gmail connected in Upsy too.)

Troubleshooting

Muse uses its own Notion connector instead of Upsy

If both are connected, Muse may pick its own. Say "use Upsy" in the prompt, paste the Help Muse remember message again, or disconnect Muse's built-in Notion in Settings › Connectors.

The sign-in fails at the last step

Muse can add a connector in two ways: through its built-in connector feature, where Meta's servers do the sign-in, or by itself from its own computer. The second way can fail just before it finishes. Upsy's prompt asks Muse to use the built-in way first. If it still fails, ask: "Add Upsy through your custom connector feature instead."

Muse can't find a page you can see

Muse only sees the workspace you picked on Notion's sign-in page. To add another workspace, click Add account next to Notion on Upsy's Apps page and pick it there. Upsy holds up to five Notion accounts, and Muse chooses one per request. Also check that you have access to the page yourself: Muse can't see more than you can.

"AI search" or meeting notes don't work

These need Notion AI on a Business or Enterprise plan. Plain search works on every plan.

Security and privacy

  • No tokens for Muse. Muse never gets your Notion sign-in. It asks Upsy, and Upsy calls Notion.
  • New apps start at Full access. When you connect a new app in Upsy, every assistant you've added gets it at Full access. Set Notion to Read-only or Pick actions on Muse's page if you want less.
  • History. Every Notion call Muse makes is in Upsy's History, under Muse. If another assistant uses Notion through Upsy, its actions appear under its own name.
  • Alerts. Upsy emails you when a new assistant connects or a new app is connected, and when one assistant reads, sends or deletes a lot at once.
  • Turning it off. One click on Muse's page turns it off. To cut Notion off for every assistant, disconnect it on Upsy's Apps page.
  • What Upsy doesn't do. Upsy has no approval prompt of its own. Muse's own approval settings still decide when it asks you first.

Upsy is built by Upstash and is free for personal use. It has no ads and doesn't sell your data.
