How to connect Notion to Grok
Connect your Notion workspace to Grok and Grok Bot so they can search, read and update pages and databases, and choose which actions each may take.
Updated
Short answer
Grok has a Notion connector of its own: on grok.com, open Connectors, click New Connector and pick Notion. Grok Bot has Notion's official plugin. Both are enough if Grok may do anything in Notion that you can. Add Notion through Upsy instead if you want Grok limited to reading or to a few actions, a record of every change it makes, or one Notion connection shared by all your assistants. Either way takes a few minutes.
The built-in way
Grok on grok.com
Notion was in Grok's connector launch on May 6, 2026, which says Grok can "search or edit pages, databases, and wikis". It's in Grok's catalog of ready-made connectors, so you just sign in to Notion (Grok's connector docs). On Grok Business and Enterprise, a team admin adds it in the console first.
Grok's docs don't say which Notion actions the connector has, or whether you can limit it to reading. Notion connections act with all of your Notion permissions, so assume Grok can see and change whatever you can.
Grok Bot
Grok Bot shares Cursor's plugin marketplace, which has a Notion plugin published by Notion. It uses Notion's MCP server (a connector that lets an assistant use Notion) at mcp.notion.com, the same one Upsy uses. You can turn single tools off, and unlike Gmail, Notion can connect a second account (Cursor's help).
Two things to know:
- In August 2026, the plugin's sign-in failed for some users with "Invalid redirect_uri for OAuth client". The fix is in Troubleshooting below.
- A Notion internal integration you set up for Cursor can't be reused in Grok Bot, which signs in through Notion itself.
Where Upsy fits
- Access per action: Read-only, or only the Notion tools you pick, for each assistant.
- History: every page Grok reads, creates or changes is listed in Upsy.
- Several workspaces: up to five, each with its own access.
- One setup: connect Notion once, and Grok, Grok Bot, ChatGPT, Claude and Muse all use it, each at its own level.
What you need
- Notion: any plan. A few tools depend on yours: AI search across connected apps and meeting notes need Business or Enterprise with Notion AI; other plans get keyword search (Notion's tool list).
- Notion Enterprise: a workspace owner can allow only approved AI apps. If yours does, they need to approve Upsy (Notion MCP help).
- Grok: connectors are available to all Grok users. On Business or Enterprise, an admin adds custom connectors first.
- Grok Bot: Cursor Pro, Pro+, Ultra, Teams or Enterprise, or a linked SuperGrok, SuperGrok Plus, SuperGrok Heavy, X Premium+ or Grok Business seat (plans).
- Upsy: a free account.
Connect Notion to Grok
- Sign up at upsy.ai with Set up Upsy.
- In Upsy, open Apps, click Connect an app and pick Notion. Notion's own sign-in opens. Choose your workspace and allow access. There's no API key or integration token to copy.
- Under Assistants, click Add assistant and pick Grok under Which assistant?.
- Click Copy prompt and paste it into a chat on grok.com or in Grok Bot. Approve the card Grok shows.
- Open the sign-in link, sign in to Upsy, and choose what Grok can use. Everything starts on with full access, so set Notion to Read-only here if Grok should only read. To allow just some actions, use Pick actions on Grok's page in Upsy afterwards.
- In a Grok Bot chat, type @ and pick Upsy.
By hand on grok.com: open Connectors, click New Connector, then Custom, paste https://upsy.ai/connect and sign in. See how to add a custom connector to Grok.
Already have Upsy in Grok? Just connect Notion in Upsy. A newly connected app is on at Full access for the assistants you've added, so Grok can use it right away; start a new chat if it doesn't see Notion. Lower the level on Grok's page if you want.
Check that it works
Using Upsy, search my Notion for "roadmap" and summarize the most recent page you find.
Grok should list matching pages, open one and summarize it. In Upsy's History, you'll see notion_search and notion_fetch under Grok.
What Grok can do with Notion
Upsy passes on Notion's own tools. Grok lists them with app_tools, runs the reading ones with app_read and the rest with app_call.
With Read-only, Grok can:
- Search your workspace, and look up people and teamspaces.
- Open any page, database or saved view you can open.
- Query a database: rows, filters, saved views, or SQL across databases.
- Read comments, and list your recent, favorite, shared and private pages.
- Read your meeting notes, on plans that include them.
With Full access, it can also:
- Create pages, including from a database template.
- Change a page's content or properties, such as a task's status.
- Move or duplicate pages, and restore pages from the trash.
- Create databases, change their properties, and add or change views.
- Comment on pages and reply to discussions.
- Upload files and attachments to a page.
With Pick actions, you choose the tools one by one. For example: search, read, create pages and comment, but not change or move existing pages. A tool Notion adds later stays off until you choose it.
Read-only allows only tools Notion marks as read-only. Upsy also refuses any tool whose name says it changes something (create, update, move…), even if it's marked read-only.
Prompts to try
- "Find the notes from Tuesday's design review in Notion and list the action items with owners."
- "In my Tasks database, show what's assigned to me and due this week."
- "Create a page under Projects called Lisbon offsite, with a packing checklist and a budget table."
- "Set the status of 'Pricing page' in the Roadmap database to Done."
- "Comment on the Launch plan page asking Ana to confirm the date."
- "Write my weekly update from my Notion tasks and this week's calendar."
Troubleshooting
Notion says the app isn't approved
On Notion Enterprise, owners can limit connections to an approved list under Settings › Connections › Permissions. Ask your owner to approve Upsy, then connect again. Notion may show a new app by its address until an admin renames it.
"Invalid redirect_uri for OAuth client" in Grok Bot
Cursor's staff said the Notion sign-in is stored against your account, so reinstalling the plugin or clicking Connect again reuses the broken one. Use the plugin's reconnect (re-authenticate) action instead, which starts a fresh sign-in.
"The user hasn't allowed you to use Notion's …"
That's Upsy refusing a tool Grok's level doesn't include, such as notion-update-page on Read-only. Change Notion's level on Grok's page in Upsy if Grok should be able to do it.
Grok uses its own Notion connector instead of Upsy
If Notion is connected both ways, Grok may pick either. Say "using Upsy", paste the Help Grok remember message Upsy shows after setup, or disconnect Grok's built-in Notion connector.
A page is missing, or search finds less than you expect
Notion's tools only see pages your Notion account can open. Search without Notion AI is keyword search, so try the page's title. If Notion answers rate_limited, wait a moment and ask again.
Security and privacy
- Notion's own sign-in. Upsy connects to Notion's MCP server with your Notion login. The token stays in Upsy; Grok calls Upsy, and Upsy calls Notion.
- Your permissions, no more. Notion's tools act as you, and Upsy narrows that further with the level you set for each assistant.
- History: every Notion tool Grok runs is listed under Grok, with the search or page it was about.
- Alerts: an email when one assistant reads 100 or more items in 10 minutes, or deletes 50 or more, and when a new assistant or app is connected.
- No extra approval step. Upsy doesn't ask before each action, so use Read-only or Pick actions for anything Grok shouldn't change on its own.
- Turning it off: set Notion to No access for Grok, click Remove Grok on its page, or disconnect Notion in Apps.
