How to connect Slack to Grok

Connect Slack to Grok and Grok Bot: read channels, threads and DMs, send messages as you, or keep it read-only. What works natively and what doesn't.

Updated

Short answer

Grok on grok.com has no Slack connector today. Grok Bot can use Slack's own plugin, but a Slack workspace admin has to approve it, and it has no read-only option. To use Slack in either one, connect Slack to Upsy and add Upsy to Grok. It takes about five minutes, Upsy is free, and you choose whether Grok can send or only read.

The built-in way

Grok on grok.com

Grok's connector docs list built-in connectors for Gmail and Google Calendar, Google Drive, OneDrive, Outlook, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint and Salesforce. Slack isn't among them, and neither its catalog nor the launch post from May 6, 2026 mentions it. Slack showed up in leaked Grok docs in 2025, but as of October 2026 it isn't on grok.com.

You also can't paste Slack's own MCP server (a connector that lets an assistant use Slack) into Grok as a custom connector. Slack's MCP server only works with apps Slack has approved, each with a fixed app ID, and Grok isn't on its list of clients.

Grok Bot

Grok Bot uses Cursor's plugin marketplace, which has a Slack plugin published by Slack. It runs on Slack's MCP server: it searches messages, files and people, reads channels and threads, sends and schedules messages, and works with canvases. It posts as you, and a second workspace is a second connection (Cursor's help). Two catches:

  • A Slack workspace admin must approve the MCP integration before you can sign in.
  • It's all or nothing. A user who checked in August 2026 found one permission list for the whole app, posting included, and no read-only option. You can switch off single tools in the plugin, or add an Auto-review rule that asks first before posting.

If your admin approves it and you only use Grok Bot, Slack's plugin is a fine choice, and it can search messages, which Upsy can't yet (see below).

Where Upsy fits

  • Slack in grok.com, which has none.
  • Read-only access, or only the actions you pick.
  • Up to five Slack workspaces, each with its own access.
  • One Slack connection for every assistant you use (Grok, Grok Bot, ChatGPT, Claude, Muse), with one history.

What you need

  • Grok: Grok's docs say connectors are available to all Grok users. On Grok Business or Enterprise, an admin adds the connector in the console first (connector management).
  • Grok Bot: Cursor Pro, Pro+, Ultra, Teams or Enterprise, or a linked SuperGrok, SuperGrok Plus, SuperGrok Heavy, X Premium+ or Grok Business seat. SuperGrok Lite doesn't include it (plans).
  • Slack: an account in the workspace. If the workspace requires app approval, you request Upsy and an owner or app manager approves it (Slack's help).
  • Upsy: a free account.

Connect Slack to Grok

  1. Sign up at upsy.ai with Set up Upsy.
  2. In Upsy, open Apps, click Connect an app and pick Slack. Slack asks you to allow Upsy in your workspace. Upsy acts as you, so no bot joins your channels. For a second workspace, click Add account on Slack.
  3. Under Assistants, click Add assistant, then pick Grok under Which assistant?.
  4. Click Copy prompt and paste it into a chat on grok.com, or into a Grok Bot chat. Grok adds Upsy as a connector. Approve the card it shows.
  5. Open the sign-in link, sign in to Upsy, and choose what Grok can use. Everything starts on with full access, so set Slack to Read-only here if Grok shouldn't post.
  6. In a Grok Bot chat, type @ and pick Upsy.
  7. Upsy then shows a short message under Help Grok remember. Paste it into Grok, so it reaches for Upsy in new chats without being told.

To add Upsy by hand on grok.com: open Connectors, click New Connector, then Custom, paste https://upsy.ai/connect and complete the sign-in. The custom connector guide has the details. Grok on grok.com and Grok Bot are separate apps, so add Upsy to each one you use.

Check that it works

Send Grok:

Using Upsy, list the Slack channels I'm in, then show the last 10 messages in #general.

Grok should list your channels, then show recent messages with who wrote each one. In Upsy, History shows slack_list_channels and slack_read_channel under Grok.

What Grok can do with Slack

Through Upsy, Grok works in Slack as you:

  • Read channels, group DMs and DMs you're in, and threads with all their replies.
  • Find channels by name, and people by name or email.
  • Look up profiles: name, title, time zone and status.
  • Send to a channel or a person's DM, or reply in a thread, as you. On grok.com, Grok shows the message in a card before it sends.
  • Not yet: message search. Slack only allows search for apps listed in its Marketplace. Until Upsy is listed, Upsy doesn't offer it, and Grok finds messages by reading the channels and threads you name. Search comes once Upsy is in the Marketplace.

Slack also lets apps outside its Marketplace read a channel's or thread's history only about once a minute, 15 messages at a time (Slack's changelog). So Upsy is good for "catch me up on #launch" or "reply to Ana's thread", and slow for sweeping a dozen channels.

You set one of four levels for Slack, for each assistant:

Level What Grok can do
Full access Read and send
Read-only Read channels, threads, people and profiles. No sending
Pick actions Only the actions you choose
No access Nothing

With two workspaces connected, each has its own level, and Grok picks one with account.

Prompts to try

  • "Catch me up on #product-launch since Monday. List the decisions and the open questions."
  • "Read the thread in #sales about the Acme renewal and draft a reply. Show it to me before sending."
  • "DM Sam on Slack: running 10 minutes late to standup."
  • "Which Slack channels have 'billing' in the name? Which of them am I in?"
  • "What's Priya's time zone in Slack? Suggest a time for a call tomorrow from my calendar."

Troubleshooting

"The user hasn't allowed you to use Slack"

Upsy says this when Grok has No access to Slack. Open Grok's page in Upsy and set Slack to Full access or Read-only. If Grok doesn't mention Upsy at all, check that Upsy is still in Grok's connectors, and in Grok Bot attach it with @.

Grok can't find a message you know is there

Search isn't available yet: Upsy offers it once it's in the Slack Marketplace. Name the channel and roughly when it was said, and Grok reads from there.

"Slack is limiting how often Upsy can read messages"

That's the once-a-minute limit above. Wait the seconds it gives, and ask about one channel at a time.

"Slack access was revoked"

Slack ended Upsy's access, for example because an admin removed the app. Reconnect Slack on Upsy's Apps page. You don't need to add Upsy to Grok again.

"The user isn't in that channel"

Upsy acts as you, so it can't post where you can't. Join the channel in Slack, then ask again.

Security and privacy

  • Your token stays in Upsy. Grok never sees your Slack login or token. It calls Upsy's tools, and Upsy calls Slack.
  • Messages go out as you, under your name. Use Read-only if Grok shouldn't post.
  • History: every read and send is listed in Upsy under the assistant that did it, and no one can edit it.
  • Alerts: Upsy emails you when one assistant sends 20 or more messages in 10 minutes, or reads 100 or more items in 10 minutes, and when a new assistant or app is connected.
  • No extra approval step. Upsy doesn't ask before each action; the confirmation is Grok's own.
  • Turning it off: set Slack to No access for Grok, or click Remove Grok on its page. It loses access right away, and its history stays.

Upsy is built by Upstash. It's free for personal use, has no ads and doesn't sell your data.

FAQ

Does Grok have a Slack integration?

Not on grok.com as of October 2026: Grok's connector list includes Microsoft Teams but not Slack. Grok Bot can use Slack's own plugin once a workspace admin approves it. Upsy adds Slack to both.

Does Grok Bot work with Slack?

Yes, through Slack's own plugin, or through Upsy attached with @. If both are installed, say "using Upsy" to pick it. Upsy adds read-only access and separate access per workspace.

Can Grok send a message to a Slack channel?

Yes, through Upsy with Slack at Full access. Grok posts as you in a channel, a DM or a thread, and on grok.com it shows the message in a card first.

Can I keep Grok read-only in Slack?

Yes. Set Slack to Read-only for Grok in Upsy. It can read channels, threads and profiles, and Upsy refuses any send.

Can I connect two Slack workspaces to Grok?

Yes. Upsy takes up to five workspaces, each connected and granted on its own. Tell Grok which workspace to use, or it uses the first one you connected.
