# How to connect multiple Gmail accounts to Grok

> Use your work and personal Gmail in Grok at once. How to connect up to five Gmail accounts to Grok and Grok Bot, each with its own access.

Updated 2026-10-10 · https://upsy.ai/guides/grok/multiple-gmail-accounts

## Short answer

Grok's own Gmail connector and Grok Bot's Gmail plugin each hold one mailbox at a time. To use work and personal Gmail together, connect each account to Upsy (up to five) and add Upsy to Grok once. Grok then picks the right account for each task, and each account gets its own access. It takes about five minutes, plus a minute per account, and it's free.

## The built-in way

### Grok on grok.com

Grok's [Gmail connector docs](https://docs.x.ai/grok/connectors/gmail-google-calendar) describe signing in with one Google account, and say nothing about adding a second. To switch, open [grok.com/connectors](https://grok.com/connectors), click **Disconnect** on Gmail, and connect again with the other account.

The connection also starts read-only. Sending is "enabled progressively by your organization's administrators", so Grok may read that one inbox but not send from it. [Can Grok send emails?](/guides/grok/send-email) covers that.

### Grok Bot

Cursor's help for Grok Bot answers the question directly: "Can I connect two Gmail accounts? No." The Gmail plugin connects one mailbox at a time. To use another, you disconnect the current one and authorize the other ([Cursor's help](https://cursor.com/help/grok-bot/connect-plugins)). The plugin itself searches, reads, drafts, sends and labels mail, and every Bot on your account shares it.

Grok's own [Grok Bot 101](https://x.ai/bot/guides/grok-bot-101) guide does say you can connect several accounts per service. Users who tried with Gmail in August 2026 hit problems:

- A second account [flashed "Added", then went back to "Authorize"](https://forum.cursor.com/t/grok-bot-second-gmail-google-workspace-account-flashes-added-then-reverts-to-authorize/168351), and showed "Authentication required". No fix was posted.
- With two accounts in, the tools were [one list for both](https://forum.cursor.com/t/grok-bot-gmail-multi-account-connector-shows-write-tools-on-for-view-only-tokens-and-attempts-oauth-upscope/168575). An account signed in as view-only still showed Send turned on, and writes to it failed with HTTP 403.

## What you need

- **Your Gmail accounts:** personal Gmail, Google Workspace, or both. A Workspace admin may have to allow the sign-in (see Troubleshooting).
- **Grok:** connectors are available to all Grok users. On Grok Business or Enterprise, an admin adds custom connectors first.
- **Grok Bot:** an eligible plan, such as Cursor Pro or a linked SuperGrok subscription ([plans](https://cursor.com/help/grok-bot/plans)).
- **Upsy:** a free account. There's no charge per account.

## Connect several Gmail accounts to Grok

1. Sign up at [upsy.ai](https://upsy.ai) with **Set up Upsy**.
2. In Upsy, open **Apps**, click **Connect an app** and pick **Gmail**. Upsy explains that Gmail connects through Composio for now, then Google's screen opens. Sign in with your first account. It becomes the default.
3. Click **Connect an app** again. The Gmail card now says **Add another account**. Click **Add account**, and choose **Use another account** if Google preselects the first one. Repeat for each account, up to five.
4. Under **Assistants**, click **Add assistant** and pick **Grok** under **Which assistant?**. Click **Copy prompt**, paste it into a chat on grok.com or in Grok Bot, and approve the card Grok shows.
5. Open the sign-in link and sign in to Upsy. Each Gmail account is listed on its own, as Gmail · address. Untick any account Grok shouldn't use, and set the others to Read-only or full access: for example, full access for work and Read-only for personal.
6. In a Grok Bot chat, type **@** and pick Upsy.
7. Paste the **Help Grok remember** message Upsy shows. It names each address, so Grok knows which inboxes it has in later chats.

Adding an account later? It's on at Full access for every assistant you've already added, and Upsy emails you that an app was connected. Change its level on Grok's page, then start a new chat in Grok so it sees the new account.

## Check that it works

```
Using Upsy, which Gmail accounts can you use? Show the three newest unread emails in each.
```

Grok should name each address, then list emails under each one. Upsy's **History** shows one search per account, under Grok.

## How Grok picks an account

- **Every Gmail tool takes `account`,** the address to act as. Without it, Upsy uses the first account you connected.
- **Name the account in your request:** "from my work email" or "in you@gmail.com". Upsy tells Grok to pick the account that fits the task, or to ask you.
- **Each account keeps its own level.** If your personal account is Read-only, a send from it is refused, even when your work account has Full access.

## What Grok can do with Gmail

For each account you allow, Grok can:

- **Read:** search with Gmail's search syntax (`from:`, `newer_than:`, `in:sent`), read messages and whole threads, open attachments up to 10 MB, and list labels and drafts.
- **Write:** create drafts, send new emails and replies with attachments, and send or delete drafts.
- **Organize:** archive, mark read or unread, star, add and remove labels, and move to and out of the trash.
- **Save to Drive:** copy an email's attachment into Google Drive, if Drive is connected.

On grok.com, Grok shows a card with the email before it sends.

| Level | What Grok can do in that account |
|---|---|
| Full access | Read, draft, send and organize |
| Read-only | Search and read only |
| Pick actions | Only the actions you choose, such as drafting but not sending |
| No access | Nothing |

## Prompts to try

- "Show today's unread emails in both my Gmail accounts, work first."
- "Find the Acme invoice in my personal Gmail and save the PDF to my Google Drive."
- "Reply to Dana's last email from my work address: Thursday at 2 works."
- "Search both inboxes for flight confirmations from the last month."
- "Archive newsletters older than a week in you@gmail.com, but not in my work account."

## Troubleshooting

### Grok only sees one account

Start a new chat: Grok keeps the tools it got when the chat began. Then check that the account isn't set to No access on Grok's page in Upsy.

### Grok sent from the wrong address

Without an account named, Upsy uses the first one you connected. Name the address in your request. If Grok should never send from an account, set that one to Read-only.

### Grok uses its own Gmail connector instead of Upsy

If Grok's built-in Gmail connector is connected too, Grok may use it for one inbox. Say "using Upsy", paste the **Help Grok remember** message, or disconnect the built-in one.

### You may see Composio on Google's screen

While Google reviews Upsy's own Google app, Gmail signs in through Composio's verified app. Google's screen names Composio and asks for full mail access. That's expected and temporary; Upsy acts on your email only when an assistant you allowed asks.

### Your Workspace admin blocks the sign-in

Some Workspace accounts can't approve apps their admin hasn't trusted. The admin trusts the app Google's screen names under Security › Access and data control › API controls in the Google Admin console ([Google's help](https://knowledge.workspace.google.com/admin/apps/control-which-apps-access-google-workspace-data)). The same block stops Grok Bot's Gmail plugin; for more errors, see [Grok connectors not working](/guides/grok/connectors-not-working).

### "You can connect up to 5 Gmail accounts."

That's the limit. Disconnect an account you no longer use in **Apps**, then add the new one.

## Security and privacy

- **Tokens stay in Upsy.** Grok never sees your Google passwords or tokens. It calls Upsy, and Upsy calls Gmail.
- **One level per account, per assistant.** Your personal inbox can be Read-only for Grok and No access for every other assistant.
- **History:** every search, read, send and delete is listed under the assistant that did it, and no one can edit it.
- **Alerts:** Upsy emails you when one assistant deletes 50 or more emails in 10 minutes, sends 20 or more, or reads 100 or more, and when a new assistant or app is connected.
- **No data kept in transit.** Upsy's connect page says Composio stores none of your email as it passes through, and neither does Upsy.
- **Turning it off:** set an account to No access, click **Remove Grok** on its page, or disconnect the account in **Apps**.

Upsy is built by Upstash, free for personal use, with no ads, and it doesn't sell your data. The [Gmail guide](/guides/grok/gmail) covers one-account setups.

## FAQ

### Can Grok connect to multiple Gmail accounts?

Not with its own connector: Grok's docs describe one Google account, and you switch by disconnecting. With Upsy, Grok can use up to five Gmail accounts at once, each with its own access.

### Can Grok Bot use a second Gmail account?

Cursor's help says no: the Gmail plugin connects one mailbox at a time. Through Upsy, Grok Bot gets every Gmail account you connect, and picks one with `account`.

### Can I give Grok different access to each Gmail account?

Yes. Each account is granted on its own, so work can be Full access and personal Read-only. Change either on Grok's page in Upsy at any time.

### Which account does Grok send from?

The one you name, or the one that fits the task. If neither is clear, Upsy uses the first account you connected, so name it when it matters.

Upsy connects personal AI assistants (Muse, Grok, ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, Devin) to your Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Slack, Notion and other apps through one MCP server, with a shared memory, files and a cloud browser signed in to your sites. You choose what each assistant may do in each app, see everything it did, and turn it off in one click. Upsy is free. To add Upsy to an assistant, add a remote MCP server (Streamable HTTP) named Upsy at https://upsy.ai/connect. It signs in with OAuth; there is no API key.
