# How to connect Fireflies to Grok

> Connect Fireflies to Grok so it can search your meeting transcripts, summarize calls and draft follow-up emails from what was said.

Updated 2026-10-10 · https://upsy.ai/guides/grok/fireflies

## Short answer

Grok can't reach Fireflies on its own. Connect Fireflies to Upsy with your Fireflies sign-in, then add Upsy to Grok as a custom connector. Setup takes about five minutes. Grok can then search your recorded calls by person, date or keyword, quote who said what, and pull summaries and action items. Fireflies only asks for an active account, but your plan sets how many requests Grok can make a day.

## The built-in way

Grok's built-in connectors are Gmail and Google Calendar, Google Drive, OneDrive, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint and Salesforce, per Grok's [connector docs](https://docs.x.ai/grok/connectors). Its catalog of ready-made connectors covers Box, Canva, Gamma, GitHub, Linear, Meltwater, Notion, S&P Global and Vercel. Fireflies isn't in either, though you can check grok.com/connectors in case that changes.

Fireflies has its own [MCP server](https://docs.fireflies.ai/getting-started/mcp-configuration), a connector that lets an assistant use another app. It left beta on August 31, 2026. You could add its address to Grok yourself as a custom connector. Upsy adds:

- **Control over the tools that change things.** Fireflies' server can share a meeting with outside email addresses, rename meetings and move them between channels. In Upsy you can keep Grok to reading only.
- **A History** of every transcript Grok read and every action it took.
- **Other apps in the same chat**, so Grok can turn a call into a Gmail draft or a task.
- **One connection** shared by Grok, Grok Bot, Muse, ChatGPT and Claude.

## What you need

- **A Fireflies account with recorded meetings.** Fireflies records through its notetaker, which joins Zoom, Google Meet and Teams calls from your calendar. It also has a desktop app, a Chrome extension for Meet and a mobile app.
- **A Grok account** on grok.com. Grok's docs say connectors are open to all Grok users. On Grok Business or Enterprise, a team admin adds connectors first.
- **A free Upsy account.**

Fireflies' [rate limits](https://docs.fireflies.ai/fundamentals/limits) apply to every request Grok makes, shared with any other Fireflies API use on your account:

| Fireflies plan | Requests per minute | Requests per day |
|---|---|---|
| Free | 30 | 500 |
| Pro | 60 | 5,000 |
| Business | 60 per paid seat, pooled, up to 1,200 | No daily cap |
| Enterprise | 60 per paid seat, pooled, up to 2,400 | No daily cap |

Daily limits reset at midnight UTC.

## Set it up

1. Sign up free at [upsy.ai](https://upsy.ai) with **Set up Upsy**.
2. On Upsy's **Apps** page, find Fireflies and click **Connect**. Sign in to Fireflies the same way you normally do, with Google or Microsoft, and approve access.
3. On the **Assistants** page, click **Add assistant** and choose Grok under **Which assistant?** Upsy shows a setup prompt and its address, `https://upsy.ai/connect`.
4. In Grok, either:
   - paste the setup prompt into a chat, approve the card Grok shows, and open the sign-in link, or
   - open Connectors on grok.com, click **New Connector**, then **Custom**, paste the address and finish the sign-in. The [custom connector guide](/guides/grok/custom-connector) covers this in detail.
5. On the Upsy page that opens, sign in and set Fireflies to the level you want (see below). Click **Allow**.
6. Copy the **Help Grok remember** message Upsy shows and paste it into Grok, so it checks Fireflies in later chats without being told.

If Grok already uses Upsy, stop after step 2. New apps start at Full access for every assistant, so set Fireflies to Read-only or pick actions on its page in Upsy right away.

In Grok Bot, paste the same prompt into a Bot chat, then type @ and pick Upsy for each task.

## Check that it works

Ask Grok: "Using Upsy, list my last five Fireflies meetings with their dates and who was on each."

Grok should come back with five meeting titles, dates and participants. A meeting that ended a few minutes ago may be missing until Fireflies finishes processing it.

## What Grok can do with Fireflies

Fireflies' [tool list](https://docs.fireflies.ai/mcp-tools/overview) has two kinds of tools.

**Reading:**

- Search meetings by keyword, date range, organizer or participant, up to 50 at a time, with their summaries.
- Read one meeting's full transcript, with speakers and timestamps. For a meeting still in progress, it returns what's been captured so far.
- Get a meeting's summary: overview, topics, keywords and action items.
- List soundbites (short clips), channels and their members, your contacts, and meetings happening right now.
- Meeting and talk-time analytics. Team-wide numbers need a Fireflies admin.

**Changing things:**

- Share a meeting with up to 100 email addresses, with an optional 7, 14 or 30-day expiry.
- Remove someone's access to a meeting.
- Rename a meeting, or move up to five meetings into a channel.
- Create a soundbite from part of a meeting.

Sharing, removing access, renaming and moving need you to own the meeting or be a team admin.

Choose a level for Fireflies in Upsy, per assistant:

- **Read-only:** only tools Fireflies marks as read-only. Sharing, revoking, renaming, moving and clip-making are all left out. This is the right choice for most people.
- **Pick actions:** exactly the tools you tick. For example, reading plus soundbites, but never sharing. Anything Fireflies adds later stays off until you tick it.
- **Full access:** every tool, including sharing transcripts with outside addresses.
- **No access:** Grok can't reach Fireflies.

## Prompts to try

- "In my Fireflies calls with Northwind this quarter, what did their CFO say about budget? Quote her and give the meeting date."
- "Go through yesterday's sales calls in Fireflies and list every objection a prospect raised, grouped by theme."
- "Pull the action items from today's sprint planning in Fireflies and draft a recap email to the attendees as a Gmail draft."
- "Which of my Fireflies meetings last week mentioned the API migration? One line on each."
- "How much did I talk compared with the customer on my last three discovery calls?"

For the email step, Grok also needs Gmail. See [connect Gmail to Grok](/guides/grok/gmail).

## Troubleshooting

### Grok finds no transcript for a meeting

Fireflies needs time to process a recording after the call ends. Check that the meeting shows a transcript in Fireflies itself. If the notetaker never joined, someone may have had to let "Fireflies.ai Notetaker" in from the waiting room or lobby.

### Requests fail with a rate-limit error

Fireflies returns error `-32429` from its MCP server when you've hit your plan's limit. On Free that's 30 requests a minute or 500 a day. Wait until the limit resets, or ask for fewer meetings at once: "last 10 calls", not "every call this year".

### New meetings won't open

Free and Pro have a storage cap: 400 and 8,000 minutes per user, pooled across the team. At the cap, Fireflies keeps recording, but you have to delete older meetings before you can open new ones, and until then Grok can't read them either.

### Read-only blocks something that only reads

Upsy's Read-only allows only the tools Fireflies itself marks as read-only. If one isn't marked, use Pick actions and tick it. When Grok says it "hasn't been allowed" a tool, that's Upsy's level at work, and History shows the attempt as blocked.

### Sharing or renaming fails even with Full access

You need to own the meeting or be a Fireflies team admin. Upsy can't override Fireflies' own permissions.

### Grok signs in to the wrong Fireflies account

Remove the Fireflies connection in Upsy and connect again, picking the Google or Microsoft account your Fireflies login uses. More connector errors are in [Grok connectors not working](/guides/grok/connectors-not-working).

## Security and privacy

- **Grok never sees your Fireflies login.** Upsy keeps the sign-in and makes each call for Grok.
- **Grok sees only what your Fireflies account can see**, as Fireflies' docs put it for every connected AI tool.
- **Sharing is the risky tool.** Sharing a meeting sends a transcript to outside email addresses, so leave it out with Read-only or Pick actions unless you need it.
- **History** shows every Fireflies call Grok made, under Grok's name.
- **Alerts:** Upsy emails you if one assistant reads from your apps 100+ times within 10 minutes, and reading transcripts counts. You're also emailed when a new assistant or app connects.
- **Turning it off:** set Fireflies to No access for Grok, turn Grok off in one click, or disconnect Fireflies in Upsy.
- Once a transcript reaches Grok, Grok's own data policy applies. Fireflies notes that its zero-day retention setting doesn't cover data an AI tool has received.

## FAQ

### Can Grok read my Fireflies transcripts?

Yes, through Upsy. Grok has no Fireflies connector of its own, but once Fireflies is connected to Upsy and Upsy is added to Grok, Grok can search, read and summarize your recorded meetings.

### Does the Fireflies Grok integration work on the free plan?

Fireflies lists only an active account as a requirement, and its rate limits cover the free plan: 30 requests a minute and 500 a day. Free storage is 400 minutes.

### Can Grok join a meeting and take notes?

No. The Fireflies notetaker joins your calls, and Grok reads the transcripts, even partway through a live meeting.

### Can Grok share a Fireflies meeting with someone?

Only if you allow Fireflies' share tool, which Read-only leaves out. With Pick actions you can allow reading and leave sharing off.

### What's the difference between connecting Fireflies and Granola to Grok?

Fireflies records calls with a notetaker and keeps full transcripts with speaker names, and its server can share and organize meetings. Granola records with no bot and works from notes you take yourself, and its server only reads. See [connect Granola to Grok](/guides/grok/granola).

Upsy connects personal AI assistants (Muse, Grok, ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, Devin) to your Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Slack, Notion and other apps through one MCP server, with a shared memory, files and a cloud browser signed in to your sites. You choose what each assistant may do in each app, see everything it did, and turn it off in one click. Upsy is free. To add Upsy to an assistant, add a remote MCP server (Streamable HTTP) named Upsy at https://upsy.ai/connect. It signs in with OAuth; there is no API key.
