# How to connect Zoho Mail to Claude

> Claude has no Zoho Mail connector. How to add one as a custom connector, with Zoho's own MCP server or with Upsy, and what each can do on each plan.

Updated 2026-10-17 · https://upsy.ai/guides/claude/zoho-mail

## Short answer

Claude has no Zoho Mail connector of its own. You add Zoho Mail as a custom connector: a remote MCP server (a web service that gives Claude tools), pasted into **Customize › Connectors**. Use Zoho's own Zoho MCP, or Upsy. Either takes about ten minutes on any Claude plan, but Free allows only one custom connector. Zoho MCP has more Zoho Mail actions. Upsy adds read-only access, up to five Zoho accounts, and your other apps in that same connector.

## The built-in way

### Claude's directory has no Zoho Mail

As of October 17, 2026, Claude's [Connectors Directory](https://claude.com/connectors) has Zoho's own connectors for Zoho CRM, Books, Desk, Projects and Analytics, among others. None is Zoho Mail. Zoho's [Mail MCP FAQ](https://www.zoho.com/mail/help/mcp/getting-started.html) agrees: Zoho Mail has no dedicated connector in AI assistants, so you add it as a custom one.

### Zoho MCP, Zoho's own server

[Zoho MCP](https://www.zoho.com/mcp/) lets you build your own MCP server for Zoho apps. It costs $0, and its calls count against your normal Zoho API quota ([pricing](https://www.zoho.com/mcp/pricing.html)). Zoho says it works on free and paid Zoho Mail plans.

1. On [mcp.zoho.com](https://mcp.zoho.com), create a server, click **Add Tools** and pick Zoho Mail's tools.
2. Open **Connect** and copy the server's address.
3. Add it to Claude as a custom connector (steps below) and approve Zoho's sign-in.

Zoho's own [Claude instructions](https://www.zoho.com/mail/help/mcp/mcp-claude.html) describe another route for Free users: paste a snippet from **Connect › MCP Clients** into Claude Desktop's config file (**Settings › Developer › Edit Config**). That only adds Zoho Mail to Claude Desktop on that computer, not to claude.ai or the phone apps.

Zoho MCP's strength is breadth. Its [tool list](https://www.zoho.com/mail/help/mcp/zoho-mail-mcp-tools.html) has 42 tools for your own mailbox, from search, read, send and reply to folders, labels, flags, deleting and forwarding, plus 49 for admins. You pick which ones your server offers.

Where it stops:

- **The address is a secret.** It contains an API key, and Zoho says to treat it like a password. If the key expires, you regenerate it and update the address in Claude.
- **One mailbox per server.** A second Zoho Mail account needs [another Zoho MCP account](https://www.zoho.com/mail/help/mcp/connect-multiple-accounts.html) and a second connector in Claude. Free has no room for it.

If you use only Claude, with one mailbox, and want it to reply in threads or tidy folders, Zoho MCP fits better.

### Where Upsy fits

Upsy reaches Zoho Mail through Zoho's Mail API, in your own Zoho data center. In Claude, it's one custom connector:

- **Free's one slot goes further:** Zoho Mail, Gmail, Google Calendar, Slack and more share it.
- **Up to five Zoho Mail accounts,** from different data centers if need be.
- **Read-only or Pick actions,** so Claude can search and read without being able to send.
- **A record:** Upsy's **History** lists each Zoho search and each email Claude sends.
- **One setup:** ChatGPT, Grok and Muse use the same connection, each at its own level.

What it doesn't do: Upsy's Zoho Mail has four tools (below), with no replies inside a thread, drafts, attachments, or moving, labeling and deleting. If you need those, add your Zoho MCP server to Upsy (**Apps › Connect an app › Any MCP server › Zoho MCP**). It then shares Claude's one connector and Upsy's access levels.

## What you need

- **Any Claude plan.** Free allows one custom connector ([Anthropic](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/11175166-getting-started-with-custom-connectors-using-remote-mcp)). Add it on claude.ai or in Claude Desktop; it then shows up in the mobile apps too.
- **On Team or Enterprise, an Owner.** Owners and Primary Owners add custom connectors, and on Enterprise so can a custom role with Manage access to Libraries.
- **A Zoho Mail mailbox** in any Zoho data center: US, EU, India, Australia, Japan, Canada, Saudi Arabia, UK, UAE or Singapore ([Zoho's data centers](https://help.zoho.com/portal/en/kb/accounts/manage-your-zoho-account/articles/data-center-for-zoho-account)). No developer console, client ID or API key.
- **Upsy:** a free account.

## Connect Zoho Mail to Claude with Upsy

1. Sign up at [upsy.ai](https://upsy.ai) with **Set up Upsy**.
2. Open **Apps**, click **Connect an app** and pick **Zoho Mail**. Zoho's sign-in opens at accounts.zoho.com and sends you on to your own data center. Sign in and accept.
3. For another mailbox, open **Connect an app** again. Zoho Mail's card now says **Add another account**.
4. Open **Assistants**, click **Add assistant** and pick **Claude** under **Which assistant?**. Copy your Upsy address:

   ```
   https://upsy.ai/connect
   ```

5. In Claude, open [Customize › Connectors](https://claude.ai/customize/connectors), click **Add**, hover over **Custom** and choose **Web** (some accounts still show an **Add custom connector** button). Name it Upsy, paste the address and click **Continue** twice, keeping the detected sign-in settings. Then click **Add**.
6. Click **Connect** next to Upsy. On Upsy's page, keep **Zoho Mail** ticked, choose **Read-only** or **All**, and click **Allow**.
7. In a chat, click **+**, hover over **Connectors** and check that Upsy is on.

On Team or Enterprise, the Owner adds Upsy once under **Organization settings › Connectors** (**Add › Custom › Web**), then each member clicks **Connect**. See [how to add a custom connector to Claude](/guides/claude/custom-connector).

Already use Upsy in Claude? Just connect Zoho Mail in Upsy. A newly connected app starts at Full access for the assistants you've added. Start a new chat, and lower Claude's level on its page if you want.

## Check that it works

> Using Upsy, which Zoho Mail address are you connected to? Then list my five newest unread emails with sender and subject.

Claude should name your address, search with Zoho's `newMails` filter, and list what it finds. It may ask before each tool; that's Claude's own permission prompt. In Upsy's **History**, the search shows up under Claude.

## What Claude can do with Zoho Mail

| Tool | What it does | In Read-only |
|---|---|---|
| `zoho_mail_account` | Your address and display name | Yes |
| `zoho_mail_search` | Searches with Zoho's syntax, newest first: 20 results, or up to 50 | Yes |
| `zoho_mail_read` | Opens one email in full. Emails over 30,000 characters are cut | Yes |
| `zoho_mail_send` | Sends from your address, with cc and bcc, as plain text or HTML. Zoho keeps a copy in Sent | No |

Claude writes searches in Zoho's syntax, such as `sender:ana@example.com::has:attachment` or `newMails` for unread mail.

- **Read-only:** the first three. Claude has no tool to send.
- **Full access:** all four.
- **Pick actions:** the tools you choose on Claude's page in Upsy.

With several accounts, each tool takes the address to act as; the first one you connected is the default. Upsy works with your own Zoho Mail mailbox, not POP accounts you've added inside Zoho Mail. To answer an email, Claude sends a new one or writes the reply in the chat for you; it can't reply inside the thread.

## Prompts to try

- "Search my Zoho Mail for invoices since October 1 that have attachments, and make a table of sender, amount and due date."
- "Read the latest email from my landlord and draft a reply here. Don't send it."
- "Using ops@mycompany.eu, find the DHL delivery email and tell me the tracking number."
- "Send an email from my Zoho Mail to sam@example.com, subject Friday review, saying it moves to 3pm."

## Troubleshooting

### "This Zoho account has no Zoho Mail mailbox"

The Zoho login you used has no mailbox, such as an account you only use for Zoho CRM. Sign in with the account that holds your mail, or set up a mailbox at mail.zoho.com, then connect again. Upsy hands the access back to Zoho, so nothing stays half-connected.

### Claude says it can't send

Zoho Mail is Read-only for Claude, or sending isn't one of your picks, so Claude has no send tool. If it tries anyway, Upsy refuses and says you haven't allowed it. Change the level on Claude's page in Upsy, then start a new chat.

### "Zoho Mail access was revoked" or "Zoho Mail access expired"

Zoho no longer accepts Upsy's sign-in, for example after you removed Upsy under **Sessions › Connected Apps** in your Zoho account. Reconnect Zoho Mail in Upsy's **Apps**. Claude keeps its level.

### "Unexpected error while invoking tool"

Claude shows this, with the tool's name, when a call fails on the server's side ([Anthropic](https://claude.com/docs/connectors/building/troubleshooting)). Ask Claude what the tool said. Upsy passes Zoho's reason on, after `Zoho Mail API error`.

### "Couldn't reach the MCP server" with Zoho MCP

If you regenerated the key in Zoho MCP, the old address no longer works. Update it in **Customize › Connectors**.

### No room for another custom connector, or the wrong one is used

On Free, you may already use your one custom connector; remove it, or use one connector that holds several apps. If both Zoho MCP and Upsy are connected, say "using Upsy", or turn one off for the chat under **+ › Connectors**.

## Security and privacy

- **Zoho's own sign-in.** Upsy asks Zoho for two permissions: your mail account details and your messages. Its tools only search, read and send.
- **Your data center.** Upsy calls the Zoho Mail server of your region, such as mail.zoho.eu for an EU account. Claude never gets your Zoho token: it calls Upsy, and Upsy calls Zoho.
- **History:** each search with its words and number of results, each email sent with its subject and recipients, and failed calls. Not email bodies.
- **Alerts:** an email when one assistant sends 20 or more messages in 10 minutes, and when a new assistant or app is connected.
- **No extra approval in Upsy.** Claude's prompt is the check before a send, so don't choose **Always allow** for `zoho_mail_send` if you want to see each one.
- **Turning it off:** set Zoho Mail to **No access** on Claude's page, click **Remove Claude**, or disconnect Zoho Mail in **Apps**. In Zoho, use **Sessions › Connected Apps › Revoke Access** ([Zoho's steps](https://www.zoho.com/accounts/protocol/oauth/revoke-refresh-token.html)).

## FAQ

### Does Claude have a Zoho Mail connector?

No. Claude's directory has Zoho CRM, Books, Desk and other Zoho apps, but not Zoho Mail. Add it as a custom connector, with Zoho MCP or Upsy.

### Is there a Zoho Mail MCP server for Claude?

Yes, two: Zoho MCP, which you build at mcp.zoho.com, and Upsy. Both sign in with OAuth, so Claude never sees your Zoho password.

### Can I use Zoho Mail with Claude Free?

Yes. Free allows one custom connector. Zoho MCP fills it with one mailbox. Upsy fits Zoho Mail and your other apps into it.

### Can Claude send email from Zoho Mail?

Yes: with Zoho MCP if your server offers its send tool, or with Upsy at Full access. Mail goes out from your own address and lands in Sent.

### Can I connect two Zoho Mail accounts to Claude?

With Upsy, up to five, in one connector. With Zoho MCP, each mailbox needs its own Zoho MCP account and connector.

Upsy connects personal AI assistants (Muse, Grok, ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, Devin) to your Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Slack, Notion and other apps through one MCP server, with a shared memory, files and a cloud browser signed in to your sites. You choose what each assistant may do in each app, see everything it did, and turn it off in one click. Upsy is free. To add Upsy to an assistant, add a remote MCP server (Streamable HTTP) named Upsy at https://upsy.ai/connect. It signs in with OAuth; there is no API key.
